Hi I just built a new system. It's in my sig under gaming rig. Anyway I'm getting an idle temp of 38C and about a 44-45C load temp and this is all stock settings. Thermal paste I used was AS5. The DFI Ultra-D comes with a plastic backplate so I had to use the thermaltake one (alternative K8 install method on instruction sheet). I tried to tighten the tiny nuts on top of the H plate as much as I could using my hands. It seems like it's on there really good but perhaps not enough according to my temps? I tried going to home depot to find a small wrench I could tighten them up more with but they don't carry one that small.

What do you suggest I do? I know a lot of you use the same mb as me so how did you tighten those little nuts on the screw? Are there any online stores where I can get a little wrench to fit it so I can tighten it up more? Argh frustrating!

Thanks in advance for any feedback

dude you need to go call your local PC shop or shops and get a specially made set of small pc tools.....or do like I did,....go to your local hardware store and look for the smallest tools they have....if the hardware store is any good you`ll find wqhat you need!

No!!! I don`t have the Typhoon...but I have needed a small set of tools before!!

Good Luck!!

i have the same HSF i used the m/b's original backplate. i put the typhoon on my cpu. After that i took a long screw driver and that was all... i did that 2-3 times because it was the first time i was using a HSF other than cpu supply and didnt place it well. why r u using the nuts???

I couldn't use the motherboards original backplate because the screws that came with the typhoon were not long enough which is why the directions say to use their backplate instead and then use the nuts to tighten it.

On my Typhoon, I used the original Asus backplate and used the original screws for the retention bracket to screw in the top H bracket into my backplate. I just struggled and used my screw driver at an angle. I'm sure you could you a ratcheting tool, but I didn't feel like taking my motherboard out of the case.

yes u have to put a little extra effort to screw them into the original backplate... How i did it: I just put one screw in one side of H using a long screw driver ( i put it a little bit in just not to get out of the backplate). So the one side of the H is now secure... the other side u have to put little effort to bend little the H and screw it in the backplate. It is not difficult i think. Also i have to mention that i used the screws came with my mobo's backplate.

I have the same rig as you do I am getting higher temps than I should, but I think it's also because I have to tighten down the BT even more. You have to get needle nose pliers(I lent mine out). I used my regular pliers but I can't quit tighten the nuts as much as I want too. So when I get my needle nose pliers back I will take the Motherboard out and do some more tightening. My temps now at 2800 with 1.42v and 280fsb are 35 deg idle and 49 deg on Prime95.

They give you four brass standoffs, two for attatching the backplate, and the other two, well who knows, but I used them in place of the little nuts.
