Big Typhoon Compatibility

Hi, I want to use a Big Typhoon HSF on my A64 3200 venice and MSI k8n neo4 platinum mobo.

I can't seem to find anything anywhere about compatibility with this mobo, but i heard from someone that the Big Typhoon requires screw holes or something around the CPU socket...so, does anyone know if this setup is compatbile?

bleh, get the CNPS9500, it blows directly out to the exhaust fan, and it also cools your motherboard (including your ram) MUCH MUCH MUCH better than any other coolers

not for 60 bucks...i am on a budget here.

How does it cool the motherboard when it blows right out of the exhaust?

To the OP, it's probably compatible, I don't see what it could interfere with as long as you don't have a PCIe card in the top slot.

As long ast he top slot isn't the x16 one I am good to go.

The only reason I asked is because I remember hereing something about mounting holes near the cpu (the typhoon needs them or something). I dunno. lol.

All Athlon 64 boards have those holes, it's what the stock retention mechanism is attatched with (the black frame around the CPU).

The CNPS9500 cools half of the board (the ram and the thing right next to the exhaust). Even if the Fan is blowing to the exhaust, the fan PULLS air, which cools the ram and some other parts of the motherboard. Your question is like asking how does an exhaust fan pull air out of the case.

And the Typhoon blows air directly down onto the motherboard which is a bit more effective than the residual airflow from the Zalman. It's like saying your PSU fan helps exhaust hot air from your case. Of course it does, but it's not all that effective at it.

actually, the typhoon doesn't blow air directly onto the motherboard, first off, the typhoon is too high up (compared to most other heatsinks), second, even if the air does get to the motherboard, the air is hot since it passes through the heatsink first.

It's not anywhere close to your statement of the psu fan...if you know about the Antec sonata case, it puts it's intake fan in front (right next to motherboard) and not behind the hard drive. You would know that the intake DOES in fact affect the temperature of the hard drive even though there is no air blowing onto it (only acting like an exhaust, pull air across the hard drive), this is the same thing that happens on the CNPS9500, it pulls air across the Ram.

Well my ram isn't over heating here...and I have enough intake fans modded in to my case to cool all those components.

So the BT is compatible. sweet.

I just don't understand the anti-Big Typhoon atmosphere on these boards! ugh!
