I am not having a good day.

Here is the problem:
Previously, like a month ago, i bought a radeon 9500pro and tried to get it to work in my system, but it wouldnt.
ON boot my system hangs for like 35 seconds before my monitor even turns on, and then when it finally gets to it, my bios wont load its settings, and just goes to default. Well with my nVIDIA cards, everything works fine, but with the 9500 Pro, it does not.

So i thought it was a bad card, took it back, now i have another one, SAME PROBLEM.

Here it is in detail.

Press Power -> System Hangs for 30 seconds -> LCD turns on -> shows my settings, says 2400 @ 200FSB(in bios it is set to 133, so it should be 3190 @ 266 FSB) -> loads windows.

I have the drivers loaded, and everything seems ok, except, the card is recognized as a 9700 pro, and now it doesnt recognize my monitor as a dell 1800fp.
At first it did, but it called it a 7#####wer23#######@3d23 1800FP, then it changed to plug and play monitor. Which probably means I have some driver issues there as well. Here is a picture of what windows recognizes the card as PIC HERE.

I have updated my motherboard bios to the latest, F4, and have the latest catalyst drivers.

If you need me to take any screenshots or anything, let me know. I'm getting really pissed.

ANY AND ALL HELP WELCOME!

Shortly after posting this.

WINDOWS SYSTEM ERROR. WINDOWS HAS DETECTED DEVICE FAILURE AND YOU NEED TO REBOOT. Now my screen is all messed up and the colors are on like 256 color. It's got to be a card or mobo problem.

Restarted and everything seems fine, except

in counterstrike, i get 100fps, but it drops to like 70-80 at times. with my plain GF3, i get 100 constant...

In system properties performance settings advanced. Under memory usage select programs. Selecting system memory =large system cache enabled.
Try reinstalling the drivers again.

up for resolution.

I am almost positive it is a motherboard -> ati conflict error. with my nvidia card it works perfect, and with my past ati 9500, it did the same thing.

Contact ATI, use the error reporting program from the website to generate a report and send it to them, let them spin their wheels for a while. Ignore previous post, it was 2:30AM... give me a break.

all of the above, nothing.

If i can trade this for a TI4800 i'll do that, because those perform better until they get to the AA AF tests.

ok. good updates

now my bios is working, i have my processor running at 133 FSB again. and, the system hang is only about 10 seconds, instead of 30. This is still annoying, and its the little things like this that bother me most.

video card keeps 100fps in CS and BF1942 now. I uninstalled smartgart but i keep it at 4x.

any sugggestions about the system hang?

Look at the registry. hkey local machine/system/currentcontrolset/video. Delete all the folders in video if there is more than one.
Then uninstall and reinstall the drivers and cp. Then run the smartgart uninstaller.
