I just got a ticket for speeding through the Oakland Community College drive after getting out of class. The ticket was for 50/25mph SCHOOL ZONE. Granted, everybody is innocent, but i just got my transmission fixed after putting in a new set of gears in my explorer from the stock gears, (in other words, my speedo says half of what i actually go). In addition, school zone isn't posted ANYWHERE. I have yet to contact a lawyer, granted a $400 ticket with four points, but what are the odds that I can get off easy? I'm 18 years old with insurance high enough as it is, and believe me, i've changed my driving habits big time!

Thanks for your help

Take your vehicle & get the speedometer tested & calibrated, & take documentation of that with you to court. Good luck, but I suspect you'll have a hard time convincing a judge that you did 50 in a 25 due to a mis-calibrated speedometer.

If you can't get a lawyer, I had good success with requesting a court date and speaking with the officer before the case came up. He agreed to support my request to "take it under advisement" which meant I had to keep a clean record for a year (I did) and then it all comes off. If you get another violation within a year I think you are stuck with them both. Hopefully you remained civil with the cop or your chances are rather poor.

BTW, that area in general is a notorious hang out for the FH cops, just about any hour of the day.

Take it to court and kiss the judge's ass and it should be cut in half
