I'm driving somewhere I've never been this weekend. I tried looking online, but could not find the address of the place I'm going, even on their website. So I searched for the city, and was able to find the place using the google satellite maps (easy to spot, it's a race track). Anyway, then all I had to do was plug in the street it was on, my address, and boom, directions! So I call my dad, and he says he hears there's a shortcut there using some small highway (hwy 88). Of course google maps won't give me those directions by default. So I flipped back to map mode, found the little highway, and was able to trace the route all the way back to my house, making my own directions!

Not in this case! I had no clue what the address of this place was, but since it's pretty easy to spot on a satellite image, I figured out what street it was on and was able to map to it.

Fear the upcomming Microsoft/MSN Virtual Earth.. It looks very much like Google Maps but has a few newer/neater looking features.. Should be out by middle of July if things keep on schedule..

Do you have to pay for that?

It would be cool if google maps had the ability to specify a route you want to avoid, or a certain highway/freeway you want to use. Then again if it did, it probably wouldn't be free.

not sure how old the satellite images are...

my subdivion is 2 years old and on the satellite map, it just shows the ground being broken for it...
