I still think the title IX issue is an excuse to not reward athletes from high revenue sports.

As long as you're not taking away scholarships from women I don't see the problem.

You're trying to apply common sense. Doesn't work when the NCAA and the courts are involved.

Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith said the stakes are simply higher for schools like his than for those in the MAC or Sun Belt.
This is why the BIG-10 sucks, and why college football is in the state its in (bullshit rankings/playoffs and conference bias).
