Big surprise Pentium IV is out!!!

Came out last week. Still nice to see Intel putting out proccessors out sooner than expected. Though I just think this is a test sample for sale.

The markings on the processor indicate that it is an engineering sample....the article says so too.

The P4 at the intel chipsntips roadshow crashed to blue screens on their powerpoint demos, Intel rep blames it on "software"

Wow those Japanese are quick!!!!

$1,274,36 (USD)at today's exchange rate. I can get a full TB 1Ghz w/ 256MB Corsair, 45GB IBM 75GXP, GF2 MX, and SL Live for the same price (no monitor of course).

$1274???!
Hey I like hi-tech but I also like the law of diminishing returns.
So I suppose P4 is always going to be 20% faster in clock speed than the competition, but I prefer to spend 20% [*all-in] of the price of the P4 for that something 20% slower instead. Sorry, Intel. And all that with RAMBUS too! Only the most label-conscious are going to buy this right now.

fastest Athlon 1.2GHz= £447
asus A7v mobo= £138
128Mb pc100 cas2= £87
total £672

P4 1.4GHz= £875+ extra tax and UK consumer penalty
mobo=£200 i bet
RDRAM 128Mb= £329
total £1404

well OK but you are paying over twice as much for what I bet is actually a 15% performance increase right now. And the teething problems of the new chipset. Are you really that desperate?
