Big speed increase going from Centrino 1.6 (Banias)-> Core 2 Duo (Merom)?

I currently have an IBM T41, 1.6ghz Centrino, 768mb of ram. Don't get me wrong, i LOVE this laptop, unfortunately though, as i've gotten more into photography, the laptop has gotten a bit slower than i would prefer.

For instance using Bridge and CS2, browing images, it just takes seconds for things to load, nothing major, but when i'm working through 200-300 images, everytime i scroll the screen and have to wait 5 seconds for the images to load, it gets annoying.

Would going up to a core 2 duo laptop give me a noticable increase in speed?

I also have a 100gb 7200rpm drive in my T41, but it wouldnt work on whatever i upgrade to as most of them are SATA....

Hmmm, wonder how much i could sell the T41 for, think $750 is too much to ask?

600-700ish, around that area is good. depends on the entire configuration and condition.. better sell fast, though. new stuff are coming out soon o__o

yah, im thinking i may need to make the switch soon...

T41-2379DJU
1.6ghz Centrino
14" SXGA
768mb Ram
100gb 7200rpm
Wireless a/b/g
Bluetooth
CDRW/DVD Combo
9-Cell & 6-Cell Battery

Its ~ 2.5 years old and still in excellent, almost like-new condition. I swear, these things are tanks.

Hmmmm, i dunno what to do....

Merom is where it's at now. I'm going to be ditching a perfectly great X2 desktop for an HP DV2000T with a Merom T7200 come tax time.
