big speakers

They look well built, but 9 woofers is overkill. If you want awesome speakers, check out paradigms, b&o, Axiom audio or hit avsforums.

The DIY threads on Avs are awesome. I built a 12" sub to compliment my HSU research. It sounded good, but I had some reinforment issues. it's still a fun hobby.

wow, cool! I worked at a construction shop for about 7 months last year, so I've gotten more experience with tools and using my hands. I think building some home theater speakers and a sub would be pretty sweet. My next project is building a screen for my projector. A seller by the name of "moakes" sells pretty sweet diy screens on ebay:

what's involved with building a sub?

hahaha, I'd certainly hope so 🙂

I dunno, I may just build the screen and buy some speakers. The Fluance speakers are really tempting, especially for the price. I have the Sherwood RD-6105 I got from Hot Deals, but I may hook my parents up with that and upgrade to something better down the road.

🙁 I can't afford a good audio system... College loans are not a good thing.

yeah, I'll probably be running my Logitech z-640s for the next year or so 😛

Yeah, I think my fiance might freak if I brought a pair of those home with me. She freaked over the last pair of Polk 3' floorstanding speakers I bought.

When I have space for them I intend to build a set of those.

There's no such thing as too big when it comes to audio.

says the guy with a sonotube/had a sonotube/sold a sonotube

coming from the guy who would love to have a line array, with a horn sub.

"These have been described as heavenly, and utterly seductive, drawing one straight into the music. Imaging is natural, but not like other speakers. It is more natural like as in life like."

shocks... pegs.... LUCKY!

The first time I heard the Megalines was on a visit with my wife to the DALI factory in Denmark, where we were living at the time. The demo item was the opening of the Rachmaninoff Third Piano Concerto. As usual in audio demos, one of the DALI people got up after a few minutes to change the recording so we could hear another aspect of the sound. But my wife Lis signaled silently but emphatically to let the Rachmaninoff continue. Now, the first movement of this concerto lasts some fifteen minutes, but we all listened enthralled to the end. When the movement was over, there was an interval of silence from everyone. Then Lis, who is usually critical of recorded music to the point of not listening to it with anything like the intensity she brings to live performances, said apologetically but firmly: ?To have interrupted that would have been like stopping a concert.? Ultimately, that says it all.

I've never listened to a line array before, but it seems to me that the virtual instrument "space" would be way too tall.
