I'm having trouble getting an even install with Big Shuriken 2 Rev b. I'm using low profile memory on an Asus Maximus VII Impact small form factor board. By looking at my previous install I can see the thermal compound is not getting evenly distributed. It is difficult to tell when the backplate screws are tightened evenly. Its also difficult just to get the backplate screws started since I can just barely see where they are hitting the heatsink nuts.
I need the low profile cooler, although I have another 30 or 40 mm above my fan. I'm thinking about trying a Noctua NH-L12. I'm using a Lian Li Q18b with a Silverstone SFX 600w power supply. The small power supply gives me a little more head room for the cpu cooler.
Seems like its always hard installing a heatsink and the Scythe instructions suck. I think I'm using the right screws since they are the only ones that will fit into the nuts supplied for the Intel install(4790K). It seems to me like a spring loaded cooler would be better. Anyone have any helpful suggestions? Oh, I'm not trying to overclock but would like to run Prime 95 at stock speeds under 75 degrees C.
