Big screen & plasma TVs

the picture will look stretched out if it's a widescreen tv that's displaying something "non-widescreen" (for example, regular, non-HD broadcast, or Full Screen DVD's)...you can set the tv to have black bars on the sides instead of stretching the image to fit the widescreen.
edit: spelng

you have to set it on the tv. the plasma we have at home will stretch out normal channels, but you can quickly change the screen ratio on the remote. looks fine when its set correctly.

A big screen with a good line doubler will eliminate the jaggies. The plasmas you must have seen were probably the cheap EDTV type. The PQ on those are horrible.

If you have a 42" plasma widescreen and watch it in 4:3 mode (tv mode) how many actual inches are you watching? Somewhere like a 30" CRT?

If you have big screen TV, you more most likely have to get digital cable/satelite box to get better quality.
