For a fine chocolate experience (to give to that lady you've been eyeing), I wholly recommend stocking up on some Godiva. There's a pretty big sale on stuff, especially Valentine's chocolate (they'll never know it's a year old). It's much nicer than the Kmart brand I usually send.

Personally, I find Goodiva too sweet. Other Belgium chocolate is not so sweet and tastes better. The perception is because Goodiva is expensive it is good.

Not for me.

I have to agree with that. I'm a chocalate lover and don't like it very much. Why is it so expensive anyway?

Because they're imported, and not the usual (cheap, bad-tasting) chocolates you buy from the local ice cream store. :)

Sometimes you can find the holiday Godivas on sale at your B&M Bon*Ton ... IMO, I find them scrumptious. :D

Godiva's chocolate has good cocoa butter content, but I find their beans are rather unspectacular. There's a slight fruityness to the chocolate, but overall, I find it doesn't have the depth of flavor you get from something like Valhronna or Sharfenberger. The latters are not only much cheaper than godiva, but have this incredibly complex flavor, almost like a good coffee.

Image. My old roommate worked at Godiva at one of their mall stores and showed me the backroom. It looks like a UPS loading dock. THey have thousands of chocolates shipped in one box, stacked on top of each other. NO fancy boxes and a sheet of paper that shows batch date and code and "suggested" sale date. THe date was 9-12 months after the batch date. If you have ever tried danschocolate.com, you know the difference between fresh and boxed chocolate. He showed me the tip sheet from Godiva on how to move old stale stock - 50% sales and free samples at the store...and...no one likes the jellied chocolates so they stay there FOREVER. But...I still like one or two pieces every now and then :)

Wait a minute...I just checked the prices - the 50pc at $135? Since when do people spend $3 per chocolate at Godiva?

Compare these prices:

12piece chocolate (cheaper than truffles) and truffle combo $24.50, supposedly regulary $44

to

the ALL truffle box $25 everyday price

My company does the engineering work at the Reading,PA plant. Godiva chocolate is expensive because of there strict guidelines of rejection.

First the chocolate has to be maintain within a half degree. It also has to be visually perfect with the correct shine. It is unbelievable the ammount of rejection they that they sell at the employee store too. It is pretty cheap there!! $6 for a bulk 2 pound bag.

I ate so much that I get sick of the mere thought of eating more.
