Big Refresh Rate problems, does not make sense.

Ok, I am fimilar in this area of having to unlock it to get around the 60hz block. I help people with there 60FPS issues on the servers I play games on. I have been running a Ti4400 and the Refreshlock program together, with no problems 1600x1200 and down will run 100hz no problem.

My Sony 21" G520 monitor can 100hz @1600x1200. It uses plug and play drivers and recommends 85hz as its highest. (yes I feel it is safe above 85hz, don't bother)

Now I have a ATI 9700Pro installed with the 3.5 drivers. I used a program called Rage3d to overclock the card. Works great.

Now the problem is I can not get to 100hz inside of my games. I have used Refreshlock,Reforce,Rage3d and still not go. Whats weird is in windows it does not show 100hz available even if I uncheck the box. And then if I set the refresh programs to run 1600x1200 at 85hz or 100hz , it still is 60hz.

Damn isn't there a real fix to this problem yet or is it still having to use all these damn 3rd party programs.

Is there a driver available for my monitor? Always thought they were plug and play only.

Man this is bothering me, its these programs, they all suck, I know how to work them but still my card will not allow it , it seems.

If your drivers are anything like mine..
In advanced, go to displays. Then click on the 'Monitor' bar right next to it's 'On and off' button. You should be taken to another menu and one of the optionis should be 'Minimum D3D Refresh'.

are you saying that when you set your refresh rate at something like 100 hz, it shows up as 100hz, but your eyes feels like your looking at 60hz?

you need the ati control panel, and force what refresh rate you want with your resolution. i don't know why this happens.

You are not reading me. I know I need to FORCE the resolution. I have set my refresh to 100hz on every program but it will not go there. What I think it is , is my drivers do not show it a supported refresh rate for this monitor which is bull, my Ti4400 setup ran it just fine.

And you drivers are not like mine.

Isn't there a DirectX9 menu where you can adjust things. I remember a guy telling me that you don't need them unlock programs that I have been using , just go into some direct x menus inside the comp and change it there. Then no need for programs.

In the previous revisions of ATi's driver, in the 'Monitor' menu there was a 'Minimum Direct3d refresh rate' option. This option, seemingly, has been removed. I'm sure there is something inside DirectX that could tweak it though.

I just got into a similar problem.

I booted back into XP from Linux and the monitor was set at 60Hz, my usual setting is 85Hz. So I went to the Display Properties->Setting etc. and saw it showed "85Hz" writted there. I cranked it up to 100Hz and then to 75Hz. My eyes still felt it was flickering on a stupid 60Hz!

I noticed there were no drivers for my monitor, it said "Default Monitor", so I grabbed the drivers from Dell (P991 - 19" Trinitron) no change!

It gives me 1280x1024@85Hz in Lunux.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

My suggestion is try hooking it up with the driver of a monitor that *can* do 100HZ at that resolution.

Then set it to refresh it at that in games.

It's possible that your monitors drivers or windows is keeping you from that resolution in 3d games for saftey or something.

THat link works but can not download the driver for it. Doesn't do anything when clicked on. I was like "SCORE" , then "DOUH" it doesn't work. 🙂 Thanks any suggestions?

well I found the driver a different way into the sony site but installed it and still no go. What I did notice is this, with my old Ti4400 installed 85hz was the highest the monitor could go outside of unchecking the refresh rate box or using a program and forcing 100hz.

With this ATI 9700pro, 1280x1024 has 100hz as a option now in the"safe modes" under windows but then 1600x1200 only will go to 85hz. If I try 85hz it will only run at 75hz. This is weird, I almost want to restore OS or just get WindowsXP.

Maybe it's like my Sony G410. It says it can do 100Hz @ 1280x1024, but it freaks out unless it's 99.8. I had to use Powerstrip to get it to work. As a matter of fact, if you haven't tried Powerstrip yet, I'd get it. Lots of true refresh locking. Works with my 9700.

Refresh rates in games have always been a problem in win2k and XP, im not exactly sure why they havnt bothered to fix it yet. Anyways, all those programs out, at least half of them anyways, get outdated cause of new vid card drivers and directX drivers that come out, so no longer will work. I had that same problem, I found like 5 programs that were all reccomended by people that were supposed to work, but didnt cause they got outdated. Anyways, the best fix I found is not using any lame 3rd party apps, but going directly to the registry. This reg hack is pretty l337 if you ask me. Dont have to download and try and lame apps, and having to reboot over and over to see if they worked. This one works like a charm and is just a registry hack. Here it is.

IMPORTANT:
Before making any changes make sure that your monitor supports the refresh-rate-resolution combinations you wish to use. Use this fix at YOUR OWN RISK.

Assuming that you have installed your monitor correctly (the monitor driver supports the desired vertical refresh rate, in our case 75 Hz), and you have a "normal" system (no multi-monitor support enabled, etc.) do the following:

Open regedit and find this key:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\system\\CurentControlSet\\Control\\Class]. Expand the "class key"; you will see a bunch of keys similar to

{1113E534-EAF87542.....}

If you select one of them you'll see some values. There should be a string called "Default" or "Class" or both of them, identifying the kind of device it is, like "Modem", "Keyboards", etc. Find the key that has the string value "Class"="Monitor".

Expand that key and there should be at least one key, typically "0000". There might be more; in that case, you'll have to see which one is currently in use. Just modify them one by one.

Start by expanding the "0000" key; there should be a key "MODES", expand it, now you should see a key with your monitor's max resolution. Now, suppose that you want a 75 Hz vertical refresh rate in resolution 1024x768. Add a key in "MODES" called "1024,768". In the "1024,768" key, add the String value

"Mode1"="75-75,75-75".

Now if you open "Display properties" (right-click on your desktop) click the "Advanced" button and go to the "Monitor" tab, you will be able to select only one refresh rate, namely 75 Hz. Provided, of course, that the "0000" key was the key currently in use and that the "Hide all unsupported modes" checkbox was ticked. Repeat the procedure for all refresh-rate/resolution combinations you wish to use.

Go to "Display properties -> Advanced -> Monitor" and select the refresh rate, here 75 Hz.
Basically what this fix does is setting the lowest refresh rate supported by your monitor to the one you wish to use. Now all games should run on the specified refresh rate regardless of whether they use Direct3D or OpenGL.

This fix should work in Windows XP too.
