Among other interesting things, SIM slot, no rear camera hole, etc.

This is a pretty bizarre video, but we watched the whole thing and we're prepared to comment: this is a pretty bizarre video. The folks at GlobalDirectParts somehow got ahold of iPhone replacement parts (a common story in Apple device leaks), and they've posted an in-depth video that illustrates the differences between this new set and regular iPhone 4 parts. Interestingly, nothing has been majorly tweaked, but there's a huge quantity of minor tweaks, primary in the internal wiring. Most notable are antenna adjustments, that are either an antenna fix, or, more likely, adjustments to allow the antennas to work with the different frequencies that Verizon's CDMA network operates on. Other tweaks are bigger head scratchers, including a SIM slot (which wouldn't be necessary on Verizon, but wouldn't hurt anything either), and the removal of the rear camera hole (perhaps an extra SKU for enterprise use?). GlobalDirectParts isn't the only one to receive the tweaked parts, SmartPhone Medic made a similar score, so at least we know this isn't a one-off prank. We'll keep scratching our heads while you check out the video, located after the break.

Verizon, and KIRF is a term for look-a-like phones. It stands for "Keepin' it real, fake". Engadget uses it all the time, I don't know if anyone else does.

Verizon iPhone rumors are a dime a dozen and not really worth following that closely. We'll know details when its actually announced, and not before.

Of course they'd keep the SIM slot. Makes more sense for them to keep it as it'd cost more money to close it up.

An iPhone on Verizon will only be LTE. LTE is an evolution of GSM, which uses SIMs, so this makes perfect sense.

I predict it will be called the iPhone 4G or 4GS, just as we had with the 3G to 3GS gens.

Only LTE? Well it might have LTE but it'll still have to have CDMA.

If they make it ONLY LTE then they're gonna have an assload of complaints when millions of customers discover they cant use their brand new shiny phone everywhere.

Yep, this. Verizon is going to drop billions into their LTE network, but if you buy a 600 dollar phone, you're going to want to use it everywhere right now, not 6 months from now or a year from now. Releasing an LTE only iPhone would be the biggest tech scandal in years. Its not like removing PS/2 and ISA slots from a desktop computer. :p

This fact is assumed in my OP. Of course you'll need it for fall back when LTE is not available. However having both technologies in one device is not an issue. My personal device is CDMA capable, but has never attached to one in it's lifespan, and never will. That and seamless live call LTE to CDMA handoff is part and parcel of these new devices.

I dont get it.

You guys fault apple ALL THE TIME for not including things on products that should be included from the get go.

EX: camera on iPad, 3G on original iPhone

Yet now you think Apple is going to include LTE in the first version of the iphone for verizon? Seriously?
