Big Rattlesnake

That pic was not taken at Devil's Lake. Looks more like the old munitions plant down Hwy12. Is there a news article?

you're right, that is at the munitions plant. However, the snake is reported to be caught at Devil's Lake. I'm looking for some newspaper cites.

I've seen the same picture attributed top someplace in Texas. And there's no way that's a 9', 80# snake. More like 4 or 5 feet and maybe 15 pounds. You think that guy could hold 80 pounds out on the end of a pole like that?

yeap. lots of people like it. I tried it once when i was younger. i was not to impressed. but then again i am a snake lover so that may have tainted the taste.

something about that pic doesnt seem real. i mean he looks like he's hardly putting any effort to hold that thing up. i remember school when I was a kid and they brought in the 13 foot boa constrictor, and it took like 5 people to hold it becausde it was so heavy and long.

I think you are way underestimating. It's clearly longer than 4 or 5 feet. I don't know how tall that guy is, but he's got to be over 5 ft tall. The snake's rattle is basically right at ground level. The body of the snake then extends nearly the full height of the guy and then about 3/4 of the way back down. Granted, he's holding it closer to the camera so that throws things off a bit, but it's easily well past 5 feet. Also, he is holding the pole with two hands so he actually could be holding 80 pounds. I don't know if it actually weighs that much, but I bet it is well past 15 pounds.

That snake's diet probably consist of mostly mice and other rodents. Barf!

It's the perspective that's getting you. I'd put money that the snake isn't more the 5 feet long.
As for the 80 pounds - that's just short of the weight of 10 gallons of water. So tie a rope onto two of those 5 gallon water jugs and the other to the end of a 3 foot stick. See if you could pick it up and stand with it the way this guy is.

I'm pretty sure the diet of a pig raised for meat is better controlled than a snake in the wild.
