big problems with computeR

well lately I've been getting what I like to call "skips". its where I'm playing a game (namely half-life) and the video and sound will just cutout for a second all together, but since it only cuts out for about half a second the picture doesn't go black or anything. it sounds more like a popping noise in the sound but its at the same time as the video skip. I heard there was a compatibility problem with msi/soundblaster/geforce4 components, thought maybe there was SOME truth to that but I'm not sure. please help!
