Hi all,
Last night I was playing some Serious Sam and my system took a dump. The game would lock up, sometimes with the sound looping, and I would have to press reset as nothing else would work. On the last reset something hosed-up. The computer did not reboot. Instead, I got a blank monitor and the no signal input message. I tried to reset again but kept getting the same thing and the system would beep when it would reset, either twice or it would just keep beeping until I either reset or held the power button in for 5 seconds in order to power down.
I tried again today and got the same thing. I thought it might be the video card, a new Geforce3 ti-500 I installed 2 weeks ago, so I put in the Geforce DDR that I have been using for about 2 years. The first power up got me the same problem, but the second actually started to boot. It started to boot but it came up with the message to insert the system disk. I rebooted and went into bios. In bios, all of the settings were screwed up. The bios version, F6, was right but just about every setting in every section was set to the opposite of what it should be. As I was trying to change the bios settings to what I had them set at before, I got lockups while in bios. I had to reset to get out of the lockup and then I got the blank monitor with the "no input signal" message again.
I have gotten that ever since then, with the beeps when I start up, either 2 beeps or a non stop series of beeps. I have tried switching back and forth between the 2 video cards, but get the same thing. I have made no other hardware changes to my rig other than the video card. Today I also tried clearing cmos but to no avail.
My guess is that it's either the GA-7DXR or the 1.33 Tbird that is shot.
Any thoughts, suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated
No progress has been made on the problem. I have switched back and forth between the two video cards but still have the same problem.
I guess it's either the GA-7DXR or the cpu that's toast. How do I determine which component is bad?
I don't have an extra one of either parts so how do I figure out which one is the problem?
What is still happening is when I first start up I get the two loud beeps and then nothing. The system never even gets to the bios I just get the blank screen on the monitor right from the begining
