Guys, here it goes.....

I have a dual boot system with Win2000 Pro and NT server 4 running, with 128mb of RAM. I bought a new stick of ram(128 pc 133), added it in. During the boot up, it saw the extra ram, and i could get the option to select either 2000 or NT4. But right after choosing one of the OS's, like NT for example......it starts doing a memory dump file, and errors about some missing DLL's, then restarts, and does it all over again. The error while trying to go into 2000 Pro is different(something about BIOS) ......but the point is I cannot get into either OS anymore.

PLEASE, how can i get around this, short of re-installing the OS's again.

I'd appreciate any help given on this.....Thanks!
 
Does everything work when you take out the new RAM? If so, does everything work with ONLY the new RAM in there? If it doesn't work with only the new ram, then I would suspect you got a bad stick.
 
I took out the new ram, and the old ones too...put one back in to try getting in..........but the same memory dump kept cropping up
 
Did you change any of your hds? It sounds like the drive lettering changed, thus the missing dll msgs.

I did add a second hd for back-up when i was putting in the new RAM.

I thought i would be able to format and assign a new drive letter to it, when i'm in.

If i took out the new drive, would it go back to the way it was, or something else i need to do?

Another question - How do i go about flashing the BIOS?

Yes, remove the new HD. It must have a primary partition on it already, which then messed up your drive letters, which then caused your failure to boot. Just removing it should fix everything.

BIOS:
Create a bootable diskette. boot off the diskette, then flash the bios.

My bad!!!

About FLASHING the BIOS, that's exactly what i'm not sure of......i've downloaded an updated version onto a floppy, and tried to boot the 'puter off it......I know i should be doing something more....Please guide!!!

 
BIOS:
There are two parts: the new binary &quot;image&quot; (the data to go into the EEPROM, and the executable &quot;flasher&quot; which puts the &quot;image&quot; data into the ROM.

On the site where you got the new bios, there should have been a utility as well.

Typically, you copy the image and the utility to a floppy, then boot from floppy, then run the utility, and it will ask you for or prompt you for the filename to flash into bios. Some of them also ask if you want to back up the current bios (strongly recommended!).

I only had a zip file to download from the Asus site........it's for a Slot 1 board, with the Intel 440LX chipset. Would the zip file contain both the image &amp; the utility?

Lest i forget, i took out the other hd, and it's back to nearly normal......it takes forever to load or open any app, even with the 256mb of ram.

I've unzipped to a floppy.......and it only extracted one file..&quot;Lx2i1008.awd&quot;.

Could that contain both the image and the utility?
