Big Problem

I have big problem.

On my Compaq Presario 5456 - I know, I know...(Celeron @ 466 Mhz with 64MbRam under Win98SE-IE5.0), whenever I attempt to run a CD (any kind) in my DVD-Rom drive, a blue screen appears, saying;

"An exception 0E has occurred at 0028:63BE7C00 in VxD --- This was called from 0028:C1832778 in VxD scsi1hlp (03) +00000508. It may be possible to continue normally." (I can tell you the "possibility to continue normally" is non-existant 🙂 )

The actual error message is in Dutch, so I translated. Also, I think that the 5456 model is for Europe only, but I don't think (hope) that this is relevant to the problem.

I want to use my QuickRestore-CD to get rid of some minor problems and to be able to start with a clean system, although "clean system" is something of a joke, even on a brandnew Compcrap...

So I need that drive to work, please...

Any ideas?

(I'll be able to check your answers until 06:00 am EST, then I'm away until tuesday.)😕

I received the following reply from GLC, over at PcMech

>>> Rename scsi1hlp.vxd to scsi1hlp.old and reboot - you don't need that file. It should be in \windows\system\iosubsys . <<<

It worked...

Thanks for your trouble, Dog
