Big Problem With Computer - Please Help!

Ok, I have a real big problem with my main computer right now. Whenever I start, after about 20 seconds (after it shows the little system information chart, it says ?DISK BOOT FAILURE: INSERTS SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER. I don?t think I have a boot disk, and if I start in regular mode, it freezes on the Windows splash screen, and if I try to start it with safe mode, it gives me a Windows general protection fault error. So what can I do to fix this. If it helps, I was transfering files to and from an old laptop that I haven?t used in a really long time, so maybe there was a virus or something. Any help is appreciated.

OMG, this is what happened to me about a week ago when I was building my first computer. I got the same error message. Mine was a little different because I hadn't even used the PC and windows wasn't installed yet. I had to take mine to a friend to get it fixed. I hope you can get it straight, I know it's a pain in the ass...🙁

Well, if you can get to the internet (which you obviously can) go to Bootdisk.com and download a boot disk for your OS. It seems as though something either wiped out your HD settings in BIOS or wiped out some boot files. It could have been a virus from the sound of it.

would need more specs.. have you installed any new programs...

another suggestion would be a reformat if NO ONE ELSE CAN HELP YOU...

Why not go into the bios and change your boot sequence to CD-ROM boot first, then throw in your Windoze CD.....wouldn't that work?

My specs are in my sig, and I haven't installed any new programs in about a week, so I think the virus might be the case. Im also pretty sure I have virus protection enabled, and Hans, is your suggestion for reinstalling Windows?

<< Im also pretty sure I have virus protection enabled >>

if you have boot sector virus protection enabled in bios, disable it.
if that doesn't help, get a good startup boot floopy .
Boot the system from the floppy. - Type "FDISK /MBR" at the command prompt. - Type "SYS C:" at the command prompt. this rewrites the master boot record.
good luck
