Well, I'm sure you've seen threads like this before, but heres another. My comp is royally screwed up, ever since I installed my new Radeon 9600XT...my comp has had problem after problem after problem...and I don't know what the hell is going on.

My specs:
Athlon "Barton" XP 2500+
ABIT NF7
512 PC3200 DDR

I don't think you need nemore than that, well like I said, it all seemed to start when I ran my TI4600 without my fan, and burnt that out, long story, but to keep it short, its dead now, and I bought a new Radeon 9600XT. The card, im sure, is fine, but It just seems now that I get problem after problem...starting with random restarts and what not, especially when I was installing my audigy drivers. So, from that, I assumed it was an over heating/over clocking issue (even tho when I checked, the cpu wasnt above 55 degrees.

Now the next problem, whenever I play my games, I've been getting stupid restarts, and even worse when I play CS, which is when my computer just completely locks up, for no reason. Again, I assumed it was from my overclocking, and theres where my third and worst problem comes in...

So I go into bios to change my settings, mind you that my card is stock 1833mhz...but for some reason, in my bios, it has two options "User Define" like normal, and "3100+"...so for some reason, my mobo thinks my card is a 3100+...which is what Ive been running it at for a while now, (200x11), and its been running fine like I said, no over heating to my knowledge. But to be on the safe side, and because I'm sick of this computer messing up on me, I put it down to a more suitable speed for the card, 180x11...and then set the bios to "Fail-Safe Defaults", and rebooted. The first time, it went right back to the 3100+, so I tried again, and it did it...again. This time, I shut it down...and boot it back up to go into bios again, but insted, it's down to what was always the fail safe defaults (which for mine was 1100mhz, and a memory check, along with other things). Well, this is where the story ends...Now it wont go past the bios screen, and it says its "Checking memory" but it never shows any numbers, and just sits at that screen indefinatly. I cant ESC out of it, resetting the bios doesnt do anything...I'm so frusterated right now. I know no one is going to read this long story, and I truly appreciate if you did, and are able to help me. Thank you so much.

WHAT IN THE WORLD IS WRONG WITH MY COMPUTER?!?!??!? :frown::(

If you think the problem arises when then audigy card is installed. I would recommend trying the audigy card in a few different pci slot s.

In your paragraph second from last, I think you are typing "card" when you mean "cpu" no?

Just a guess, but I'm thinKing you have driver problem for the gfx card, and have now mucked about with your BIOS attempting to undo your OCing.

I'd suggest resetting cmos (unplug machine, use either jumper or remove battery). Either keep standard settings (FSB 166) or go back to the FSB of 200 (OCing the Barton to 3200+) Either way w/b OK cuz I don't the 3200 setup causes problems.

If you haven't already, download driver cleaner to get rid of nVidia driver remnants (which can cause big problems) and have a go at it.

This is a good idea. You can also go a step further and start unplugging other things. NIC, ATA cards, firewire cards, etc... Make sure if you have onboard sound that it is disabled (for WHATEVER reason my PC wouldnt boot with both my sound card and my onboard sound active).

Good luck!
