As far as I'm aware these aren't going to be sold in the US.
I can't remember where I read it but someone was saying that these very large phones are designed primarily for regions where people cannot afford multiple devices.

I'm all for everything having the ability to make phone calls (I wish my N7 could) but that no way implies I could get by with single, large device.

If you have a Google Voice number your N7 can easily make and take phone calls. ;)

When I had the Nexus 10 that's exactly what I would do. Out and about I used my phone, when I got home I would switch call making and receiving to my tablet.

Apps like GrooveIP is poor substitute for regular cell calling. Even with T-Mobile WiFi Calling, people would complain to me about voice echoes. There's no way I could rely on something like GrooveIP or Talkone except out of desperation.

Meh, I haven't had any issues and I've yet to have anyone complain about how I sound (I've asked people multiple times when using it and they don't notice any difference).

No GV in the UK unfortunately.

So, when phones move to voice over data essentially making phones/tablets identical in hardware (the only difference being physical size) What are we going to call them??

fragmentation of the galaxy brand sucks. i can't tell what is what. wtg samsung.
With Samsung, "Galaxy S" is what you should be looking for (or "Galaxy Note" if phablets are your thing).
Avoid all other "Galaxy *.*" products.

I'm just not sure why you'd want such a large screen with that low of a resolution. If I'm going to have poor resolution, I'd at least want the smaller form factor. a 6.3" should be 1080p to justify itself in a phone IMHO.

These aren't high end phones that's why. These are more mid range phones that happen to have large screens.

Yeah you can get the S4 in 1080p but thats a premium model.
The mid range models cant possibly have that kind of density.

A couple years ago I was buying a TV, and everyone said 1080p is way too much resolution for a 40" screen, that I should just get a 720p. Now today, 1080p is apparently the minimum acceptable for a 6" cellphone screen. How times change.

As consumers, are more devices at every size and tier a bad thing? Personally I don't see myself buying a Mega, but if it's kind of a budget Note 3 for some folks in other markets, good for them.

Personally I want the Note 3 to retain top end hardware/display and keep it's size growth under control (a la S4).

I also do think Samsung should release a high end 4.3-4.5 phone with similar minimal bezel as the S4, appropriately scaled down hardware (maybe just downclocked) with a current gen 720p AMOLED screen. Between a high end Mini, the S4, and the Note 3 - it'd make for a great top end buffet.
