Big performance boost gaming-wise for DDR?

Hi, I'm currently running a 1.4 Amd, Radeon 64 DDR, and 1024 MB of SDRAM. Would I see a gaming boost if I switched over to 512 megs of DDR Ram? I'm running XP Pro as well. The games I'm playing now are Counterstrike, Medal of Honor, and Rogue Spear. Thanks

DDR memory will give a significant boost to performance, not doubt about it. Especially GeForce3 cards. But your Radeon WILL benefit from DDR memory compard to SDR memory.

Check out the amount of memory. Even if you disagree, he is asking if he would SEE the difference.

Any difference he may notice is in the whole m/board & RAM package.

Real world? I doubt it.

It doesn't matter how much RAM you have once you get past 512MB. If he's talking about the difference between 512MB DDR and 1024 SDR, 512MB DDR will certainly perform better. There's a certain threshold.

Agreed. Now will he SEE a difference.

Depends on the game obviously. Probably in Counter Strike and Rogue Spear, the types of games he plays (Max Payne too). But if he were asking should I buy 512MB of DDR instead of should I switch 512MB of DDR, I would say stay with 1024MB SDR.

Take it as you may, but in heavily bandwidth requiring games, DDR will be necessary.

I agree. I think you & I agree & are coming at this from different directions.

Thanks for the input. I'll probably switch over to DDR ram soon. Just need to find a good motherboard that has RAID capabilities. I'm looking at the Abit KR7A-133 Raid. It it any good?

I switched out my KT133A board+mem for an AMD-761/DDR setup and I did notice quite a difference, but I think it was a combination of the DDR *and* the change to a newer chipset.
