Big mistake, Cleared logon

Don't ask, just a dumb move on my part. XP desk-top, anyway to get back inside? Rolling back, and clearing the cmos don't work.

Can you be a little more specific, please? Windows XP doesn't use a SYS.INI file and the SYSTEM.INI file dosn't have anything to do with the startup or logon process except to provide driver and font names for 16-bit application compatibility.

If you don't remember the precise file name or the specific information that you deleted from it, please let us know exactly what your computer is doing now and the error message you are receiving (if you are getting one).

Your right probably not in sys. ini, somewhere, in perhaps config. sys.? was using 3rd party app. Anyway a box was unchecked, which means that when the system boots, you get a screen asking you to click your user name icon, when I do nothing happens, (hense, the topic). BTW, there was never a password required. In a nutshell, is there anyway to get back inside, and unchack that box? Command prompts? Sure I'm pretty much backed up, but reformatting seems a bit extreme for such a small mistake.

The name of the app. escapes me right now, nor does it matter. It is an app. that easily allows
access to the entire system, with box's to check, and uncheck, very similar to msconfig. The box that I had unchecked has to do with the logon, and effectively disallows anyone from logging on. exactly which box this was? Ah, therein lies the rub. If you think it would help I could replicate my error on another machine, and tell you which box it was. Alas, I doubt that would matter either. I wonder if I could make that drive a slave on another rig and get access?? I am willing to just reformat, for I have pretty much backed up everything, EXCEPT my wifes' saved games,(shes gonna kill me), unfortunately I am failing there as well, (see other thread).

The name of the program does matter, since it could help us find an answer for your problem. Without the name of the application, all we can do is guess since no MSCONFIG type program I have ever heard of includes a check box that will completely disable the logon process. I honestly can't think of a legitimate reason why anyone would put such a "feature" in a computer management program. If you have another computer with the same application installed, please take a look and tell us the name of the program as well as the label/name on the check box that caused the problem. Don't actually save your changes on the other computer!

If you decide that you want to go ahead with the format and reinstall, I gave you instructions in your other thread. Putting the drive into another computer as a slave/secondary drive should give you access to the files so you can back up your wife's saved games. You might have to take control of the files on the other computer before you can copy them. If so, post back here and we can give you instructions to do it.

Well nutz, did I say shortly? seems now my other computer is acting up. Probably cuz I tried to use it's hard drive to access the info on the drive I can't log on to, late last night. That machine is now just doing a boot loop, and to make matters worse, it does not have a CD player, and it's not for the lack of one, but that's another thread. At least it *was* running, and could have told us what app/program I had used, and by looking at it's interface I could have told you folks just what *box* I had unchecked. Without a CD to repair it, that machine won't be much help to us now. I'm going out on a limb here and quess it was,--- WINLOGON.EXE not that it matters
The computer in question is a EVGA 750i, it is a sata only mobo, which sort of limits me, however I have one sata HD with *expendable* info that I could format,install windows on, an make it the master of the computer, are you following my thinking here?? Trouble is, when Bill Gates, meets Bill Gates, the outcome might not be pretty, which, I believe is what happened to me "late last night".
One more thing, it really angers me that some people will take/get advice, and help, but never report the outcome. I would never do this, I may be old, slow, and ignorant, but I'm still a gentleman.
