Big LCD screens, 6 of them

At work, we're supposed to be getting 6 large LCD screens for network monitoring and news channels. My boss told me to see what we'll need. I was originally looking into plasmas, but I've seen another install using 4 NEC plasmas and it already has burn-in. Any suggestions? I'd prefer not to have speakers as they would only get in the way.

we have a few samsungs that you can hang onto the wall. they range up to any size you want. 17,19,20 inches. I have 6 LCD screens at work myself, but 4 of them are 15inch ones which are ridiculously tiny. rumor has it that the boss wants to get a plasma screen too.

I should have mentioned that. It looks like the largest LCD you can find is 40", so they'll be 40" unless there's some outstanding reason to get 37s instead.

Personally, I think anything will look better than the projector we have right now. With all this ambient light, it's very difficult to read. I would say price over picture quality, but if it's only a few hundred more for a better display, features, etc. then I could see it being justified. I'm guessing $5000-$5500 will be the target budget per display.

This belongs in either the "General Hardware" or the "Video" forum, not here. Sorry to be the "wrong forum" Nazi, but it's all in the interest of getting you the right answers.

I didn't post in either of those forums as it's not computer related.

Well you do realise that the 40" will have 'crap' resolution and NOTHING compared to the 1600x1200 of even the 20" Samsung/DELL lcd's right?

If resolution isn't such a factor then the bigger 40" are good.

The NEC you saw was probably not a 'good' model but if the image is static for every prolong periods then don't go with Plasma even though I love it.

Me I have a 23" Sony LCD that runs 1920x1200. Very good screen.

Or you could go for even more resolution and get the iiyama professional 20.1" screen or something like that. Runs some CRAZY resolution of 3xxx x 2xxx. Can't remember the specific resolution :(.

You can do A LOT with $5-5.5k per screen :D

If all plasmas suffer from burn-in, then they won't work. If the budget shrinks, maybe we'd go with plasma.

A 20" LCD isn't nearly big enough. These are going to be wall mounted for network monitoring and tv that everyone in the room can see.

I've seen that Samsung makes several (403T, 405W, 406W) and NEC makes one (LCD4000) but I haven't found any reviews putting them against each other. Most of the reviews face an LCD off against a plasma display, which I don't care about.

PS: Thanks for the replies so far. :)

For video feed, the Sharp 37" ones look better than the Samsung & NEC 40" ones. The new G series 37" is very very good, though they are a bit more than the last gen H series. The G series is easily the fastest big screen LCD out there, and this will be noticable with motion (ie. stock tickers). They also have high contrast and brightness, which makes them good choices. They're the right resolution for your usage. 1920x1200 or 1920x1080 would be a waste of money.

The G series can be found for just over $4k. Be sure to buy from a Sharp authorized place though. Not worth it to get screwed on the warranty.

FYI, the Sharp LC-37G4U can be mapped 1:1 over DVI, something the older LC-37HV6U & LC-37HV4U could not. This will be a nice feature, giving you a sharper picture.

Thanks for the input, guys. The G series looks like a winner. It even has a PC output so I can avoid buying a splitter. Now I need to start a thread about quad video cards. :)

Uh oh, the G series has a pc card slot. I'm not sure if this will break the deal, as these will be in a classified environment. I'll have to check. The LC-M7000 looks great, however. Can anyone give any input on this display? It looks good, and the replaceable backlight will be nice if it decides to tank down the road. It doesn't have a tuner, but that's not a problem as we'd have to use a VCR on the cable feed anyway. The specs look very similar

The LC is based on the last gen panel from the H I believe. Slower response time (12ms on the newer G), and lower visual quality.
