I like this: Their efforts were supported by a $7.5 million grant from the Department of Defense.

And several (hundred) lightyears away on some distant planet (hundreds of) years in the future, we apologize for obliterating your humble world with our weather-making lasers of doom.

Yes I know they won't be this powerful. But lol at the notion of randomly firing off lasers into the sky to make it rain. The FAA throws a fit with a friggin' laser pointer...

Ah just noticed at the very end of the article much or some of it was funded by the DOD, Dept of Defense. So maybe some weapons applications are in the works.

I just hope they are somewhere in the ballpark of 100% certain of what they are doing and what is going to happen when they start shooting lasers into the atmosphere.

all this can do is make rain begin earlier.
If the clouds and conditions are not there I don't see how this can do anything.

Another step in Cobra Commander's dream of taking over the world using a Weather Dominator

What's LOL is there is no shortage of rainfall in central FL and also I would hope they are working with the FAA to ensure that any airplane would not be in the vicinity if/when they try this idea out.

Nah the laser is energetic enough and tuned to the correct harmonics that it reorganizes the particles in nitrogen into hydrogen and oxygen, while supercooling the new molecules to form liquid water. It is a terraform-alchemy laser.

So they're working on weather-control lasers, and someone else is working on a thing to deflect seismic waves. We've also got ideas for ways of modifying the orbits of asteroids.

Collectively, our species is a James Bond supervillain.
