Big hard drive question (another one)

I just got a 160GB Maxtor ATA133 drive, and the 1394 drive box I'm putting it in does not support >130GB drives. When I put it in there, the drive appears in Disk Management as 128GB. If I format it and use it as a 128GB disk, will that work OK? I realize that I will not be taking advantage of the drive's entire capacity, but will it operate perfectly fine as a 128GB drive?

[edit] I don't suppose an overlay utility would help the situation?

Because I can't. The IDE<->1394 chip in the drive box only sees 128GB of physical disk space. Hrm, would one of those wonky overlay utilities help me here? I don't imagine it would, but it never hurts to ask.

no it wont. It needs to be able to address the rest of the HD space. Maybe a firmware update will solve this. Many ata100 controllers will see past the limits with a bios update 🙂
