The FU should be to Bose and dock makers, as their dock was passing on the surge and shorting iPods and Apple was paying out of pocket to replace them. Now sadly, Apple has had to go and screw people with older docks to save themselves, but that's kind of what companies do - operate in their own best interest.
You do realize tons of accessories for Apple iProducts are not forwards compatible?

What a load of crap. The blame lies soley on Apple's shoulders for their insistence on using Firewire for everything. The problem is in the way Firewire charging works on these devices; Bose and other accessory makers were just following Apple's spec, which they decided to change when they started losing money on warranty claims.
