Now with voice recognition and "follow the leader", reduced noise, and self-image.

The World’s Scariest Robot Now Listens to Its Human Master

There's nothing on the planet that's equal parts terrifying and spectacular quite like DARPA's LS3 "Big Dog" robot. It has the horrific realism of an actual dog, mixed with the horrific robot quality of... a robot. Now it's even more powerful.
In the latest demo, DARPA shows Big Dog with some new tricks. Instead of just roaming around looking for kibbles/human skulls to chew, the robotic quadruped packmule will follow a human leader—it'll also follow its commands. By uttering "close follow!," the Big Dog trails its fleshy companion stomping over rocks and through ravines. It also, amazingly, can pick itself up after falling over into a mud puddle, something many humans can't even accomplish. And the entire time, it's incredibly quiet. Eerily so. The next command is presumably something like "Stomp him to death, Big Dog! Mush!"
Now just imagine this whirring beast helping a soldier carry a load of supplies he couldn't possibly on his own. Or a commando leading a giant herd of these through a warzone, with enough guns to topple a small government. This is sci-fi warzone tech at its creepily best. [DARPA]

Good.

Soon we'll be able to attack the power generators, leaving the Rebels defenseless.

The World’s Scariest Robot Now Listens to Its Human Prey

Better title. It HAS gotten a lot quieter. Any speculation on the new power source?

Kinda goes along with Nvidia and DARPAs next toy.

With a goal on delivering at least 75 GFLOPs per watt of processing power, up from today’s achievable number of 1 GFLOP per watt, NVIDIA contract (worth up to $20 million), part of the Power Efficiency Revolution For Embedded Computing Technologies (PERFECT) program aims to make the 75 GFLOP processing power available that is estimated to be what is necessary for automated warfighter technologies in autonomous devices. With this level of power/performance the expectation s that machines will be able to collect and analyze significantly more data, in real time, than is currently possible.

I would assume just a muffled/silenced gasoline engine....or perhaps an electric driven engine with a smaller gasoline generator

Wow, the recovery from that rollover into the mud was impressive as hell.

Looking at the sides, it seems it was made to roll somewhat. Along with that being the cargo area. Center of gravity would pretty much make it roll onto its legs.

I love how when it falls and rolls over it sticks it's legs out like a cat.

Pshaw, if it was anything like a cat it would have twisted its legs around mid-fall and recovered well before getting any mud on its body.

And then it would have run off and started licking itself as if it had intended to do that all along.

It was mildly terrifying at slower speeds. Then 3/4 through the video it starts moving faster ratcheting up the horror. Once this thing can sprint like 30mph we're all dead.

Being aware of the tree trunk laying on the ground and reacting appropriately, crazy.

Wow, he gained weight since I last saw him. On a personal note, if my dog was that clumsy, Id carry it.

Impressive piece of technology nonetheless.
