The x800gt is an 8 pipelined card. The 7800gt is a 20 pipelined card with a somewhat new architecture over the nvidia 6 series. The difference is phenominal in my opinion. Think of going from a 9800xt or pro to an x850xtpe or better. difference is pretty big.

it all depends if you want to play at HIGH res, like 1600x1200 and up. if 1280 or 1024 is ok with you, then the upgrade isn't much worth it. i have an X800 and it does perfectly fine in games at 1280, but add AA and what not and then it starts being unplayable. 1024x768 w/4xAA is what i use for everything and i'm perfectly content graphics wise.

oddly enough I play games at like 800x600 or 1024x768...can I get more than 80 FPS on CS:S and DOD:S with the X800 if I use those Res?

I just want something I can use to play at that Res until I have more money...which is the cheapest Vid Card I could use for that?

6600GT.

I have one and I can play the above games easily at those resolutions.

what FPS is easily?

I want at least 100 FPS on CS:S and maybe 80-100FPS on DOD:S...

I also want a playable HL2...

also...is the difference that great with a 6600GT if I'm coming from an ATI 9600XT?

Is there a big difference between a Rage Pro and a 6800 Ultra?

The answer is a thumping, resounding YES.

Easily meaning I dont experience any significant slow downs.

At 1024x768

BF2 50+
CS:S 80+
FEAR 40+
FarCry 60+

I dont have DOD:S, sorry but its requirements are higher than CS:S.

with a 7800gt you can easily get 100fps in CS:S and probably 60+fps in DOD:S and HL2 would run very smooth.
