mcd is switching 'fresh, never frozen' patties.
note: the smaller patties for big macs/mcdouble will still be frozen.

now it'll be interesting if you now get more product?

it's precooked weight but mcd's can make 7 quarter pounders from 1lb of meat.
that's because ice is allowed to counted as part of the precooked weight.
(can u say dipped in water before flash freezing?)

but now that's it never frozen, I'm guessing you'll get more product?
ie: more filler like soy proteins?

They actually found a way to solidify water without freezing it, so it's still only 70% meat.

I don't see what the big deal with frozen is. I'd rather have frozen than fresh, because fresh sounds pretty risky...if all you have is fresh & customers are pounding on your door and all of your product is expired, what are you going to do? Use the meat that's there. With frozen, at least it's in a safer state for readiness.

What does any restaurant do?

You can ship just about anything in this country from one end of the 48 states to the other in two days over the road. With centralized distribution systems, there's no reason for anyone to run out of fresh, unfrozen meat. They don't freeze the lettuce, do they?

It's been a bit since I looked but a big thing about McD's was in regards to cost and consistency. There is a big war for the 'value menu' items right now and they have a much larger distribution network they have to manage compared to Wednys. FWIW distribution concerns are whats preventing Inn-n-Out from expanding more

Given how bad frozen lettuce is, I hope not. :p Back when I worked at McDonalds, when you remove lettuce from a bag, you had to place a date on the container so they knew how old it was. The assembly line used fairly small containers to avoid that sort of product from getting stale by sitting out too long. They'd also prepare containers with smaller amounts for the reduced demand later at night.

McDonald's has their stuff down pretty tight... but whether or not the employees actually care to follow it is another thing entirely. :p

It's hard to grasp without being in the industry, but any restaurant that does decent business (like a wendy's or other fast food place) will go through food quick enough to need fairly consistent deliveries. This also means food turnover is generally faster than expiration timelines, so it's not nearly as big of an issue as you'd imagine. As long as you have a manger that's keyed in on how much food they're consuming, so they aren't ordering too much (or too little) then having fresh meat on hand isn't all that difficult to manage.

That said, I don't care much about things being frozen either. It's all in cooking it properly in whatever state you start with.

Whoever does the tweating (or the crew that does) for Wendy's is hilarious. There is some videos showing Wendy's tweets responding to tweets to it. Its awesome.

I'll be honest, wendy's burgers just taste better, and the fresh never frozen is probably a big part of that. Also tprobably the cooking process.

If McDonald's can get the quarter pounder, and hopefully double quarter pounder, to not be so mushy tasting, I'd be pretty happy.

I couldn't find it anywhere well I didn't look that hard but does this include the double quarter pounder? I dont see why not since its just suppose to be 2 x the regular QP.

Meh, I don't think Wendy's is much better than McDonald's. Maybe it's because how horribly greasy their burgers are.
