CARACAS (Reuters) - Leftist President Hugo Chavez called on Venezuelans on Wednesday to stop singing in the shower and to wash in three minutes because the oil-exporting nation is having problems supplying water and electricity.

Venezuela has suffered several serious blackouts in the past year because of rapidly growing demand and under-investment, which has been aggravated by a drop in water levels in hydroelectric dams that provide most of its energy.

Chavez announced energy-saving measures and said he would create a ministry to deal with the electricity shortages, which have affected the image of his socialist revolution before legislative elections due in 2010...(cont)

Hmm this may be in Barracks speech next week for us. ;)
after all we shouldn't be selfish with the earths resouces
And it would help with global warming.

It sounds like he's using the same playbook as both Bush and Obama. Imagine that.

We should do this. All bath faucets in the US should be electronically set and timed and monitored by the Ministry of Showers, starting say at 5 min, we not being a third world nation and all and the water should be recycled within the home to wash dishes, cool, flush etc. The gray water should then be locally collected and used for landscape and local farming. Anybody so choosing could buy devices that heat the bath run off with solar, filter it and recycle it back into the shower for those desiring more than 5 min. Sever fines for failure to comply will quickly help people to realize they can enjoy other things than jerking off in the tub with the water running.

Not at all too simple. I have been looking at the tanks along US 80 between SF and Sacramento for some time with that thought in mind. All homes should be built to collect rain water as part of the original design. That way the tanks could be put underground. The water could also be used to heat and cool the house.

Let's just use the Roman villa format. It isn't designed for multiple floors - you can get rid of these McMansions, and no garage design may help eliminate those nasty polluting cars. As for rain, the courtyard collects it, and the water falling through the roof reminds everyone of the environment continuously.

It's illegal in most places to collect rain water for personal use because the people who own irrigation water shares downstream already own it.

And that's when the 2nd amendment comes in handy...

Try to remember that 5000 gallons of water weighs 40,000 pounds, or 20 tons. That'd be like parking an empty cement mixer truck on your roof, and doesn't even account for the weight of the tank itself.

Plus, good luck warming water in a tank on your roof in, say, Minnesota in January. Now you have a FROZEN cement mixer truck on your roof.

Maybe the simple solution isn't so simple after all, eh?

Psstt - the tank doesn't need to be on the roof. And there are many solar water heaters in Minnesota.

First and last picture have solar water heaters on the roof. Both also have photo voltaic arrays too.

LOL, ummmmmm, a cistern doesn't generally sit atop a roof (although there are some designed for this so that pumps are not required, yet the house has to be designed for this in mind as water is kinda heavy). Water that falls onto the roof is generally collected and stored undergound.

And go back to public bath houses, that way we know for sure that water is being reused and the amount is tightly monitored. We don't need showers and tubs in the households. Progress and privacy be damned.

So...do all tanks and containers in your house sit on the roof?

Is your hot water heater on your roof? Man..how do people flush toilets in the basement!

I wish we could figure out this gravity thing. ;)
