Big Blue IBM To Stop Making PCs?

LINKO!!!

If true, I'd say this is a rather big deal. The inventor of the PC will now be dropping out of that very market big time. Sad if you ask me, I've always respected a lot of IBM's products.

IBM said yesterday it was to sell its PC manufacturing business in Europe and US to Sanmina although it will still make StinkPads and still design and sell the desktop machines.

This is the Inquirer were are talking about.

Big Blue IBM To Stop Making PCs?

Is there another Big Blue i'm not aware of??

ya, ur right. it is sad to see ibm stop making pc's. but you have to remember, ibm is first and foremost a SERVICE company always has and always will be. they kinda got lost during the 80's but they've found their way back.

IBM has not been a player in the consumer/retail segment since they pulled out of B&M stores years ago

Who wants to deal with razor thin margin and noob tech support in that arena anyway, leave that to dell

As long as they keep making their nice laptops, I don't think anyone will miss them too much. However, I do respect them as a company and wish them well in whatever busniess endeavors they delve deeper into.

They are not stopping production of PC's. The only thing they have done is to outsource the manufacturing of the machines to another company, in order to save money. All the developement on any new Netvista machines will still be done in-house.

They are not out of the market by any means. The desktops play a crucial role in IBM being able to offer the "total package" to companies that they work with. This package includes software as well as the hardware (whether its servers or workstations) to run that software.

The real scoop, staight from IBM

Matt
