If you have ordered from Necxdirect the rebate is not valid. I just called TDK and asked them if the rebate was valid with Nec X and they told me no. What can we do for all the people who did buy from Nec X expecting a rebate from TDK. I feel really screwed. :(

Sorry, this is not a Hot Deal. Please post this in the Moderator sponsored ~~~~ Brag & Moan ~~~~ thread.

Thank you,

Interesting. I have a copy of the rebate form in my grubby little hands, admittedly obtained from Buy.com, and it says nothing about retailer restrictions.

I stand corrected Product may be purchased from any participating retailer.

Sounds like TDK has a PR disaster on their hands.

I bought the TDK from necxdirect.com and I printed out the rebate form from tdk and it says on the rebate form "Product must be purchased from a TDK account that has approval for this program". So I called 1-800-835-8273 and asked if Nec was a member of this program and the lady could not manage to look it up, she says there is a long list of accounts on there and she cant find NEC so I told her to check NEc X and Nec Direct but she couldnt find either of them, it may be she just didnt know waht she was doing, but it has caused me to be really worried. Can anyone really find out if the rebate is valid with nec because I will return it if not before I rip off the UPC.

Just fill out the rebate form and send it in.It doesn't matter where you bought it from. mrVW is right. Those CSRs don't have a clue to what's going on other than what thier told. BTW Got mine from buy.com.

Also I recieved the 50 pack of discs today but not the writer.Hmmm!

I am not trying to stir up trouble, I am trying to find a solution. Sorry if I have caused any trouble as I dont mean to, just trying to build my new system and save as much money as I can and this really caused me some problems and I assume it might cause others problems. So I'd like to find a solution to this.

"Product may be purchased from any participating retailer." The key word there is participating. The implication is that some retailers may not be participating in the rebate program. NECX might be one of those. :disgust:

mrVW:

<< Yha, but is "Sav" the junior memeber just making this post to stir up trouble? It says RIGHT ON the rebate site: Product may be purchased from any participating retailer. >>

It's really sad that you've shot him down simply because he's a junior member. Does that make him less credible? In some cases maybe, but definitely not in this one.

The rebate which can be found here for the TDK veloCD 12x10x32 cd-r very clearly states, and I quote:

<< Product may be purchased from any participating retailer. >>

Did you miss the fact that it says PARTICIPATING retailer? Not all retailers and websites choose to be participating retailers of this rebate, as a portion is paid by TDK and a portion is paid by the retailer. The retailers which choose to run the promotion, also agree to pay back a portion of the rebate to TDK. In return, the retailer will probably have higher sales, but less of a profit on the item. Places like NECXdirect cannot afford to pay back portions, simply because of the business model they run under, which is low profit, high volume.

You are correct, only certain retailers/etailers are participating in the rebate, and by calling TDK, this is the only way to find out if merchants are a part of it. Circuit city, buy.com, best buy are the only places I know for SURE which are offering this rebate. I know there are more but these are the ones I'm sure of. If TDK told you that NECXdirect was not part of the rebate, I would believe them.

Mr. Junior is doing us all a favor to point that out. Otherwise someone will say TDK didn't make it clear and start a thread to get people to sue.

I have a copy of the repabe form I printed from the tdk site and there is no reference to dealer participation. Simply purchase between Jan 1 - March 31, send in UPC, and receipt or packing slip.

If you want your rebate then yes you should return it. I don't know which rebate form you had jlhavens but I had an original rebate form and it clearly stated "participating" retailers. If you want to take your chances on $50 it's your money. If you want to be guaranteed your rebate, find out from TDK who is participating if you don't want to purchase from one I've already mentioned.

As I've already stated, to participate in these rebates, the retailer HAS to pay a portion of the rebate BACK to TDK. NECX apparently didn't sign up to be a participant and you will not get a rebate from TDK, most likely.

I Guess I will pay the money and return the drive and hope for a refund.. all in all.. NOT a hot deal if you bought from them and you wille nd up losing money :/

Has anyone checked to see if gateway.spotshop.com was listed? That's where my order came from.

Since NECx could be listed under some other name, why not ask them if they are a participant? Also, I don't think NECx should get a bad rap unless they said there was a rebate if you bought from them.
