I was testing out my new cd-rw, and i didn't plug in the IDE cable all the way...windows 2000 froze as it began to boot up, so I turned off the power switch and plugged in the IDE cable all the way. It restarted and bios detected all of my drives properly this time, but right as it finished the post screen....

it reached the PCI device listing screen with the table that shows all of my hardware devices...usNo...DeviceNo....IDE Controller...IRQ and it FROZE, and bottom 30% of my screen was a gray color. Here are the lines it displayed right before it froze:

Update ESCD...Success
Building DMI Pool
Award Software, Inc.
[underneath those lines was all gray screen]

I tried to boot off a floppy and a cd but it still locks up before it's able to boot.
I also tried to clearing CMOS, but it was to no avail.

Is it time for a new board??? I really hope my hd's arent screwed up.

🙁

Something sure sounds fubared there. Try updating the bios as a lass shot resort. Test your hard drives on a different computer

i was trying to update the bios just earlier and it froze during the flash!! i think my trusty board is pretty much a goner... 🙁

i just wish i knew what the heck happened!

bump for some help please!

i've tried: taking out the battery of the mb and clearing the cmos with the jumper. Then, I restarted with nothing but the cpu, hsf, vid card and the main HD....still same symptoms.

what could be wrong? If it's just the board, then i'll just get a new board, unless something else could be messed up?

Actually I CAN get into setup, so I'm able to mess with the BIOS settings.....but i'm just not sure what to do!

not sure if i should scrap the board now or not....still goes to POST....still can get into SetUp...but not much after that.....

any ideas?

Some place sells replacement bios chips for like $30 if I remember correctly or you could hot flash yours if you can find an exact motherboard like yours to use.
