Besides the fact that my Server keeps crashing during backup, my tape drive (HP surestore 24) has crapped out. Cleaning light stays on and will not accept a cleaning tape or any other tape.
Is there any way I can build a computer today (have everything I need) and make some type of automated process to copy my files over thru the network at a pre-determined time this evening (after everyone is gone). I can use either Nt4.sp6 or win2000 Pro (not server). I ned help on this one bigtime. Please help me.
Thanx

Most people use software such as Arcserve or Backup Exec to do backups at timed intervals. If you're trying to back up something and have software, you could possibly map a drive to another system and have it backup to a folder somewhere else. Most of the time though it's recommended to backup to tapes since they're cheaper and can easily be archived so you may want to get a replacement tape drive. Depending on the size data you're backing up, the price could be anything from a couple of hundred to a couple of thousand bucks to get a decent system.

The system I am looking at for right now is VERY temporary, just for this week until my new server and tape backup arrives. I currently use Arcerv to back up, but now the tape drive is shot. I will see if I can send it to a local HD on the network. I only need to backup 8 GB or so.
