As a fellow who tries to avoid all drugs (except ibuprofen, it's not really a drug but a gift from God) I could get behind this thinking. That said, it be really fantastic to get people away from crap that destroys their lives.
Do you drink?

Want to get people off <harmful stuff>, you'll never do it by building walls and hiring more cops. You have to reduce demand, which is partially a mental health issue...perhaps some of that money shoveled to prisons can go to better and more available mental health treatment.

I'd go so far as to argue that marijuana is a better and safer alternative for many drugs that are prescribed these days like gabapentin and certainly opioids.

It's so silly to even need to keep justifying the relative harmlessness of cannabis. The irrational opposition to full cannabis legalization is mostly generational now, we're some finite number of funerals away from far more sanity on this issue. Reefer madness is slowly dying, and good riddance to it. If we didn't have such a gerontocracy in place, we'd already have federal legalization, imo.

In general older conservatives suck on most issues

63 year-old wheelchair bound MS patient using cannabis as an awesome medication!

Inflammation used to make my ankles blow up as large as my knees due to sitting in this chair for 16 - 18 hours a day. I can actually see my ankle bones when I go to bed at night now.

I tested negative for celiac disease back in the day. Doctors told me I had to live with it because it was MS causing my stomach and gastrointestinal issues. Wrong! Gluten sensitivity is an actual thing… try running to the bathroom when you're in a wheelchair when your stomach goes crazy… doesn't work!

What does work is a couple of hits of my hybrid cannabis cartridge pen. Shuts down the gut craziness immediately!

Insomnia due to spasticity in my legs?!?! Three or four hits from the indica cartridge at night and it’s lights out!

Amazing and glad it works for you.

There are so many testimonials of people with physical ailments where marijuana can make the pain bearable without requiring addicting painkillers that big pharma tries to sell as candy.

What is weird AF is that I have never got relief from pain from any kind of MJ!

Flower, edible, or oil…

Rarely. The last six pack I bought lasted me 2 years. I threw out the last two. My bottle of single malt scotch will last another couple of years at my current rate of consumption. I've gone through periods where I've had a drink almost every night, and others where I go a few years without a drop. I do enjoy good whisky, but I forget to drink it.

The other problem is, the US sees drug addiction as a criminal issue and not a medical one - to help people safely get off them. Change that view and you take care of the other side of the coin on legalizing drugs (the other being running cartels to the ground by legalizing certain ones and taxing). But this has been said a million times before. Shrug...

Stop buying the cheap shit! If it really was good whisky, you wouldn't forget to drink it!

If we apply the same logic that you and FDC support for MJ to your anecdote, you should be arrested, charged, and options for work, housing, etc...removed for you.

Care to comment about the empirical evidence presented regarding how sugar operates in the body similar to drugs of addiction?

Amen to that but are you conservative?
I would say definitely not.
Edit: I'm surprised nobody made fun of me using token instead of toking. Must of had either public transit on my mind or LOTRs. Or just maybe I was stoned.
