I've heard people here say that we should have gotten the hell out of Afghanistan as soon as we got Osama. So, why didn't we?

What people? What sort of education do they have? What expertise do they have? What exactly did they say?

When Obama took office, we had 25K troops and 36K contractors in Afghanistan.
We surged up to 98K troops and 100K contractors in 2011
Bin Laden popped in May
In June announced winding down and begin withdrawal with exit in 2016
At the tail end of the Obama presidency, we had 9800 troops and 25K contractors.

A lot of the latest polls are showing Biden's approval rating hitting new lows, especially among independents.

People are disillusioned. They know if they vote for Republicans, they get more fascism. If they vote for Democrats, they get milquetoast conservatives. There is no party that delivers a liberal agenda that would benefit the vast majority of Americans so while people can get motivated to vote out the fascists, the conservatives that replace them aren't anything to get excited about. Add to that the structural bias in favor of the fascist Republicans, people get even more disillusioned.

We escaped the quagmire, the morass, the sucking quicksand of Afghanistan. It was pure folly from the start to imagine we could impose our will on the orneriest people on the planet.
