Um. Is it so hard to change gears? Almost every bike has the shifters right on the bars where you can get at them without moving your hands off the grips. Not to mention....$400 for that thing? You could get a really nice "suitable for off-road use" mountain bike that likely weighs a lot less than the landrider as well. I just don't see the need for the added weight and complexity of the auto-shifty thingy. It's interesting in principle, but I don't see it ever showing up on higher-end bikes.

I'm with Fausto1 on this one. You still have to pedal it, and with all the extra weight, it won't be easy.

My bike in India was pretty heavy, the other day I went to a bike shop and a raliegh bike that was round the same price could be lifted in 3 fingers. I coudlnt dare do that on my racing bike in India. So weight doesnt matter to me.

But I was just looking at the gear changing thing.

Prior to this bike there was on called "Auto Bike" that worked on a similar principal of weight transfer to shift gears. That had 21 speeds.
