In the quest to keep the 40lbs I lost over the past 8 months off for good, I have been trying to keep more active and less in "couch potato" mode. :)

Along with walking and using my treadmill, I dusted off the ol' mountain bike and have started riding around the neighborhood. My son (He just turned 3) was getting frustrated by not being able to ride his little trike and go with me - so I bought one of those rear-mounted child carrier seats and attatched it to my bike last night.

He loved it!!!! That was soooo much fun!! It is so cool to hear the voice of my little boy behind me going "wheeeee - faster daddy!. go fast again daddy!" As a bonus this should motivate me to ride more often!!! :)

Any of you other ATOT parents ride with your kids?

That's awesome! Man, all these newfangled kids fitness toys these days make me so jealous! All I had when I was a toddler was a bike seat strapped to the back of my parents' Schwinns. :D

I wish I could have ridden in one of those covered kids' wagons that hook to the back of the bike, or one of those 'third wheel' type bike attachments for kids.

I remember someone riding with one of those along with him... :)

I'll never forget because he passed me. :(

I have a trailer which I can tow behind my hybrid bike. I started hauling around my 5 year old. He loves it :)

I need the exercise too ;)

When I was little, my dad wiped out with me in one of those seats. The backpack that was hanging over the back of the child seat fell down and got caught in the rear spokes. The rear wheel locked up suddenly, and down we went. (My dad says he remembers me crying a lot more than I recall. At least he had the forethought to belt me in so I didn't go flying into the street.)

Way to go Dad! Hope the motivation stays with you!

This is why I will never use one of those seats.

THANKS! I hope so too (actually I KNOW I will ride more often with him wanting to go with me)! My son is harder on me than any physical trainer would be LOL! ("FASTER daddy!"........{ME}:"whew, daddy needs a breather...") ;)

jumpr: I did in fact get a seat that attaches to the bike frame (This BELL unit from Walmart) not a trailer - sorry if that was confusing.

Yeah, they're not the safest thing in the world since the little one gets augered into the ground if you fall. Better bet are the tow-behind trailers or the "half-bikes" that bolt onto the back of Dad's bike once the kid is old enough to ride his/her own bike.

I miss my bike. It burned up in the garage fire. :(

Was that the same fire that was a result of your spudnut baking endeavor?

No, someone set fire to our garage winter before last and we lost everything in it.

As for my baking, nothing burned down. :p

Is that BS still going on or did you finally get the guy arrested?

Still going on. Memorial Day marks two years.

We found out today the lawsuit case got moved locally, which is total BS. There's too much press coverage here to get any sort of fair trial.

I love those bike carriers for children. I can bike about 1/2 the distance and still get a serious workout. Unfortunately my six year old is too tall to fit in it anymore, but she likes riding her own bike anyway.
