Bicycle helmets?

Do you wear a bicycle helmet? I see people that wear them, but many that don't - like kids and pizza delivery guys. I guess teenagers are especially conscious of how they look and don't want to wear a helmet.

I will definitely get one if I one if I get myself a bike this summer. I haven't ridden a bike in years but I just recently I got an urge to. I just want to get on and go, do you know that feeling? Problem is I'm not very good at riding; I never really learned properly. I'm "wobbly" and can't turn well. And I live in the city, so it would be dangerous to take it to the streets, not allowed to use it on the sidewalk. So, my plan is to take streets that are not busy and use sidewalks whenever there are no pedestrians around so that I can get to the park as safely as possible.

I'm in the NYC area. It seems to be up to the rider. They should just make it required so that it won't be an issue.

I don't. My damn misshapen head is elongated so that every helmet is either too tight front-to-back or too tight on the sides. Hehe.

I don't. But I'm gonna get one. Some dumb little b!tch in a Cadillac with "vouge" wheels almost hit me the other day.

There are some really cool looking helmets, so I really don't buy the "they look horrible" argument. You're going to pay more for them, yes, but aren't kids used to paying for style?

Besides, I'd rather take 1-2 hours of looking dorky to a lifetime of looking good in a coma. Or worse yet, looking good in a casket. Wear a frikken helmet people!

I don't, but I really should. I just love the feeling of wind in my hair though, I used to wear a helmet but I hated the stifling feeling so I stopped wearing it. That was years ago.. then I didn't bike much. Getting back into biking now, maybe they have better helmets now? I should check it out.

I spent $80 on a Giro (or is it Gira) helmet which looks nice, is lightweight, aerodynamic and has a high rating.

I usually put on a baseball cap first then the helmet, that seems to protect my hair from getting really fscked up.

In my city they will ticket you if your not wearing a helmet.. even if your over 18 they will still ticket you.

I used to wear one in High school when i rode my race bicycle. It was so colorful and bright and I got all the unwanted attention from women.

Because of it I got very popular among other school girls.

Spoken like someone who runs calls on the idiots who didn't wear one. "ducks and geese"??? more like frank and beans!!! :D I always wear my helmet as I've crashed and burned mountain biking to many times to take my brain pan for granted ;)

I've got to get one. I've been spending my money on the bike, but forgetting about my melon.

Who makes the best ones, or where can we find out?

I have a Giro Mojave. I won't ride without a helmet, I don't need any more brain damage than I already have.

I realize that your job requires you to deal with some nasty accidents, but isn't this kinda 'overkill' ?? ;)

BTW- I never got the memo about this being "Change your Avatar" week!!
