I adhere to the Inerrancy of the Bible, per The Chicago Statement on Biblical Inerrancy and Hermeneutics. Generally, here on Anandtech, when somebody mentions all the errors/contradictions in the Bible they link to some rambling web page full of misleading half-researched nonsense. What is the definitive Bible error? Let us get one good, obvious, and irrefutable error and put it up for examination.

As a practicing Christian, I am also interested in what The Chicago Statement on Biblical Inerrancy and Hermeneutics entails!

I once had a hermeneutic....I had to have it surgically removed. Very painful.
my friends came in while I was laid up and played that Fat Albert clip where Bill Cosby gets one.
I almost got another one from laughing so hard!

Of ALL the sites posted hear on biblical inerrancy, or Pagan influence, or any other internal criticism of the bible, %100 of the time the objections stem from poor textual interpretation. Hear this: The bible is an ancient Eastern book. Poor exegetical study gets you no where. I've posted this before, but I think it illistrats my point exactly.

Karen Armstrong, in her best selling book A history of God(I'm sure you've all seen it at Barne's and Noble's or something) states that Jesus never claimed to be the Son of God, instead he claimed to be "the Son of Man." A typical modern Westerner is going to read that and go "Oh yeah, right on! That's good." A typical first century Jew is going to know right away that "Son of Man" Jesus was referring to was Messiah prophesied in Daniel.

Pastor Don,

If no one brings forth any serious objections, I don't think that means they don't have questions. So, in the case that no one brings forth anything, I will bring the most common objections that skeptic scholars raise. Deal? I will site my sources too.

Seriously PastorDon, you may want to look elsewhere besides ATOT for a truly in-depth debate over the authenticity/veracity/accuracy of the Bible. OTOH, if you're just trolling for flames you've come to the right place. :)

LOL @ Perknose and Jzero. As for PastorDon...maybe you should think about building rapport or at least respect with the forum before you start arguing with people. But anyways you and lebe have fun arguing with each other....

I don't really expect a serious answer. The outspoken atheist like to throw out vague generalities or link to somebody else's vague generalities. The reason I mentioned the Chicago Statement was to establish a standard for interpretation, just in case somebody actually comes forward with a proposed "definitive error/contradiction".

Errors in the Bible? I dunno if there are any, outside of a few inaccurate or less than precise translations in certain English versions(although I can't sight them, it's been too long), but I'll agree that most of what are considered contradictions are really just bad attempts at debunking the Bible.

There is always the issue of peoples ideas of what the Bible says though. I think that everyone knows of instances where the words of the Bible have been twisted to suit a groups or individuals personal views, rather than the appropriate method of letting the Bible form ones personal views. Case in point: Wholsale(amongst certain American Christian groups) acceptance of Republican/Conservative views. Certainly Republican/Conservative ideas do somewhat mesh with Biblical teachings, but the open-minded Christian, IMO, would also recognize that some Democrat/Liberal ideas also mesh with Biblical teachings. This one-sided view doesn't bring fault to the Bible, as much as it exposes how the words of the Bible are not adhered to as they should be by those claiming to adhere to them.

"How you became elite, the world may never know."

If there is one thing yet another ultimately unresolvable theological debate here at the Anand Off Topic College of Cardinals desperately needs, it's the insertion of some small modicum of humor and levity.

If there is one thing Off Topic doesn't need, it's another hopelessly self important and pointlessly judgemental Diamond Member blowhard like you. You and your 4000 plus posts are living proof that quantity does not equal quality.

Newsflash from "the world" to ThisisMutt: please don't involuntarily include us in your arrogant ignorance.

Elite is one title, the only title that one earns here by means other than merely existing. It's safe to say your not next in line, laddie.

And we need another arrogant, pretentious "elite" member such as yourself? You're the one who came into a legitimate thread and took a crap in it. Maybe some of "us" are tired of seeing that type of BS all the time, especially in "religious" threads. You know what, I'm glad I'm not a member of the elite crowd - there are only a select few that I could ever respect.

These type of threads are as old and as sure to recur as Coke vs. Bruce Lee. 4000 posts later, and you still don't know that? Are you that slow? My surgical insertions were short and sweet -- a full 18 words total in two succinct posts -- your soapbox bleating is just needlessly tiresome, and a bad joke on your own lame self.

Don't get your "miss the point" panties in a wad, choir boy. Nobody likes a whiner.
