I posted this in General Hardware earlier with no response. So I thought I try here next.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So last night I decided to finally flash my BH7 to the new 1.5 BIOS update. You know, the one that's supposed to fix the funky temperature readings. Anyway, everything looks normal during the flashing and I received the 'Flash Successful press F1 to reboot' text box. I go ahead and press F1 and the MB powers down. While powered down I remove the floppy drive that I had temporarily installed to do the flash and then hit the power button. Everything powers up for approx 2-3seconds and then it powers down. No post, no video, no beeps, no nothing. I use the CMOS jumper hoping that would clear things up.....no dice. Removed - reinstalled the battery, no help. Thinking maybe the PS had given up the ghost, I tried a different one, same result. Tried a different stick of memory and another video card......same. At one point the motherboard was powering up for 3-4seconds, powering down, and then powering back up and shutting down.....without me touching anything........and there were no indications of posting (I.e. beeps or video).

Anybody have any other suggestions before I start looking into a new BIOS chip?

Thanks,

dave

Just an update for anyone that is curious:

I managed to figure it out. Apparently the new 1.5 BIOS requires a 'smart fan' be connected to the cpu fan header. If there isn't 2000 RPM within 3 seconds of power up it shuts down to protect the CPU. And what I had was a two wire PanaFlo L1A bolted to my MCX4000 (which worked perfectly with the old BIOS) so that appears to have been my problem. Why that wasn't mention in the BH7_15.TXT file is beyond me.
