Well I assembled the upgrade today, I got the box of stuff from OCZ including the alpha pal 6035 and the arctic silver.
I used the AS paste on the cpu core and attached my alpha. None too impressed with the clip, but after a lot of messing around I finally got it right.
I have it all running at 124 FSB right now, it posts at 133 FSB (933mhz) but will not boot. I need to see if it's my ram, one of my PCI cards or what. I probably just need to invest in a newer Mobo.
Anyway, it's happily chugging along at 868mhz now - I'll do some experimentation with removing PCI cards to see if it's one of them that isn't happy at the higher FSB.

Well I just read about the adhesive on the arctic silver site.
This stuff is supposed to be a two part epoxy kind of deal and guess what? The OCZ person who packed my order only put in the one part.
Now I guess I have to call and email them a bunch to see about getting the other part, oh boy.

I don't get a 1/4 divider for some reason. Maybe the board is just too old.
I flashed it with the SS bios (it's an Abit BH6). I'm pretty happy with
the 124 FSB, I just need a newer mobo I suspect.

Well, I have two 128 meg pieces in there. One is a PC133 that runs by itself up to 124FSB cas 2-2-2 but not at 133. I can't remember what brand or anything it is but it's got 7.5ns chips.
The other is a Mushkin PC100 with 8ns chips. It runs by itself at 124 MHZ cas 2-2-2 but not at 133. I've tried with each of them individually and also tried changing the cas to 3-3-3 and all that. I don't know if it's a ram problem or not - but just in case it is I ordered a piece of mosel 7ns ram today. When it comes in I'll put it in and see if it runs at 133. That stuff supposedly runs at up to 160 mhz FSB so I should have no trouble getting 133 out of it.
Of course now after all this farting around my Geforce2 card suddenly won't work at all. I just get bands
of color up and down the screen. Tried it in the wifes machine, same thing. Now I'm back to my old TNT2 card again. When it rains it pours!

Wiz, you're at 44MHz+ pci bus, so I think you better get a newer board. ;)

Thanks Steve, I'm only at 41.3 MHZ PCI right now, cuz I can't get the OS to load at 133fsb.
You are right though, I do need to get that new board. I really wanted to see what this one would do first.
By the way, the Alpha PAL 6035 keeps this thing real cool. I didn't even mess around trying to get my old Peltier sandwich to fit - it belongs with the old celeron 300a anyway. When I move this BH6 to the wifes computer she will get the cel300a @ 505 (a nice boost from her K6-2 350).

Wiz..

1)Check your Bios settings.

AGP CLK/CPU CLK:2/3
PCI/VGA Palette snoop:DISABLED
Video bios shadow:DISABLED
Video bios cacheable:DISABLED
Video ram cacheable:DISABLED
8 bit I/O Recovery time:4
16 bit I/O Recovery time:2
Assign IRQ for VGA:ENABLED

2)You'll need your Geforce 2 card in your BH-6 @ 133FSB.(Problem could be your card.)If you can get another geforce/geforce 2 from a friend to try.)
Or try yours again BUT install nVidia Detonator 3 Driver 6.49
http://progtec.org/drivers/nvidia/
by Removing ALL current video software/driver that came with the card in your ADD/REMOVE programs.Install back to standard VGA first. Then to 6.49 driver (WinXX or Win NT)

3)Run your PC 133 @ cas 3 only for now in slot 1 and when you get your New Ram install it in slot 3 if you run both Ram .Stay away from slot 2 . Most BH-6 boards don't agree with memory sticks in slot 2

4)UP... your CPU Voltage to 1.85V

>What version is your BH-6? Version 1.0X? If so your board flashed to SS your pci divider will be at 1/4 :)

Thank you Drifter, I will try those suggestions.
I think my BH6 is 1.1 - but maybe it's 1.0 - I have the SS bios running now but in softmenu I don't get a choice for 1/4 PCI, it only says 1/3 PCI. I remember reading here some time ago someone said it is 1/4 at 133 fsb but how do you tell?
My Geforce2 card quit working after pulling it out and putting it back in a couple times. Now it just gives me vertical color bands. I have my TNT2 card in there now, happily chuggin along on a 41mhz PCI bus :)
See this Thread for the whole bad story on the Geforce2 card situation.
I'm at 1.85 volts and when the Geforce2 card was in I had the Nvidia 6.47 driver loaded.
I'll try the other changes you mention and see if there's any change.

WIZ-

Arctic Silver heatsink compound is a 1 part compound.

The two part epoxy is for applying small heatsink/fans to graphics cards and the like.

You DO NOT want to use the 2 part epoxy on your CPU

KR, thanks I actually bought both, I used the one part paste on my cpu and wanted to use the 2 part adhesive on something else. Sorry I must have written that in a confusing unclear way. Anyway, they sent the "Part A" tube of the adhesive and no "Part B", as well they also sent the paste, which works fine along with my GORB on mt CPU.
Cheers,
