After just over a year of great service from my Abit BH6 the keyboard connector is dying. I have to wiggle it and stuff to get it to work. What a truly sad way for this mobo to go. I?ve had it through 3 cpu upgrades. Every upgrade I've done before this involved getting a new mobo, cpu and video card because of changing standards.

I called Abit about servicing a warranty and my overall love of Abit took a dive.

1.First off I would expect when I call there office in America that the person could at least be able to speak English but that was too much to ask.

2.Charging me $25 for ?shipping and handling? to service a warranty is NUTS, and that?s for UPS ground shipping!

3.She told me there would be a TEN(10) day turn around after they receive it from me!

4.Ever hear of cross shipping?!

Well there it is? I?d hear the stories from other people and there true, Abit?s service is SUCK!

Well my old Abit LX6 held out for 2 years. Now the system will be used by another and with all the talk of Abit boards dying (like yours) I really hope it doesn't happen to my LX6!

I've recently converted to Asus myself and there's no goin' back baby!

G'luck with your situation...sounds like Abit's customer service...isn't.

Well I can't really say it's poor quality that caused the port to die. I have pluged and unpluged that sucker a lot. Who knows I may have snaged it one time but.... the RMA thing is lacking.

Keep in mind that most all motherboard manufactures don't deal directly with the end user. They sell boards to dealers for a very good price, the dealer applies a hefty markup and sells it to the end user. Keep in mind that the dealer makes 2X the profit the manufacture makes. Some of those mark up profits are supposed to go to supporting the product so call the dealer, not the MB manufacture.
A good analogy would be you buying a new Chevy from you're local dealer, then calling the factory in Michigan for a warrantee problem. - M.

That $25 sounds bad, but it is a lot cheaper than a new mobo. Abit probably didn't make that much off it in the first place. Like mschell said, don't expect too much from any mobo manufacturer, especially Abit. The way it is, vs the way we want it to be. As an alternative, you might pull the mobo and check the solder joints at the keyboard socket, and some keyboards come with an adapter to usb, although they won't work in dos.

Jhhnn: What are you talking about some KBs come with adapters to USB? Do you mean a PS2 to USB adapter? I would kill for one of those... and yes they can work in dos if you enable the support thru the bios.

Pyr-- my microsoft natural keyboard came with an adapter for usb, and it works. Like I said, I don't use it because it doesn't seem to work in dos. I don't know that an adapter will work on just any KB, the circuitry may be different.
