a lot has to do with your ability to get rid of the heat generated by your machine
from what i have read it is within safe operating but somewhat high... i have a BFG 6800 U o/c and it idles at 51-52 and under loads i have seen it at 60 I have a stacker with 4 fans
ambient temp is 36C

hmm, i have a 120 MM fan on the way for the back, theres only one small fan on the side, looks like a 90mm stock w/ case no more than 30-40 CFM i would say. Thats it.

I think that just might be the problem, till than, off goes the side panel.

Edit: took off the side case, and put my big fan on blowing in the case. temp dropped to 57 idle from 62 idle

thats fine, actully a bit low. Dont take off the side panal, thats foolish, your card is running how it should.

Mine runs that as well but I have the NV Silencer on it with Arctic Silver Ceramique.

now the ampbient temp was at like 47 with temps of core at 76, after playing some counterstrike.....
so i'm ok as long as i dont break 80 right.... Remember i have not OCed it, just a lil bit a while ago for a few minutes..... did this void my warranty? is there anyway they can tell i OCed it more?

I've got a BFG 6800 GT overclocked to 400/1100, it hovers between 59 to 63 degrees in Windows.
I heard there are two versions of BFG 6800 GTs, one has a significantly better fan, the other looks more appealing because it has a blue light.

I have the blue lights one, with Dual fans :(. Its all they have now becuase thats the new 6800GT model that BFG is out w/.
I was thinking of either getting a NV silencer or putting some arctive silver 5 on it.

someone complains about the same model in the hardware forum, and he returned it. I think as long as it's within 80 degrees it's ok, well BFG claim to have lifetime warrenty didn't they? so it doesn' t matter if you return it later. Watch out for the conditions of the warrenty though.

I couldn't image my cards actually hitting 135C. I think I would sell my heater and just run 3DMark 2K5 in an endless loop.

take off the heatsink, it'll hit that temp...but i duno if you can loop 3dmark...lol

as for someone saying that they heard that there are two versions of the cooler and one is appealing and the other is a "significantly better" cooler....well thats true and the "significantly better" version is actually the reference design of the heatsink from nvidia...lol

Well its hard to find the BFG w/ the reference design cooler. Somewhat of a rarity you can say. All new ones have the new cooling design. But it's got lifetime warranty so i'm not that freaking out.
Plus I called BFG (at 2AM sunday morning) and the tech told me theres nothing to worry about and that it was actually in the operating range. I should worry if hits mid 90s. This is from the manufacturer, I even asked him that i have seen other cards at lower temps, this won't void my warranty right and he said no, these temps will not void warranty.

I guess these suckers just run hot. If anyone has the reference Cooler on their BFG 6800gt OC, please post your temps.

Thanks

Well I have two BFGs although they are PCIe they have the reference design. I get in the low 50s for idle and high 60s for load. This is in a Lian Li PC-V2100 case with two fans (one in the front and one in the back). Ambient can get into the 90s.

I get about the same temps as u with the same cooler as u do (well, my highest is like 68 C, but close). No problems with that temp.

Mine idles at 62-63 and jumps up to as high as 86 while playing games. Should I start worrying now? I think it's getting all the hot air from the NB47J that I put on my A8N-SLI and having the front fans blow at it. I put another fan over the northbridge but that doesn't seem to help :(

Get an Arctic Cooling NV Silencer 5. I play HL2 for hours and when I'm done I have never seen the temp over 64deg. And I'm pushing the clock 423/1100.

Mine gets up toe 80 while playing and is currently 56 in an ambient of 36 supposedly.

I have my case all open too because I'm still rewiring/waiting for some components.

The load temperature on GT and Ultra will go into 80s with stock air cooling. That's normal. The card's cooling does a good job of dissipating the heat quickly so that when you check after exiting a game, it will show temp in the 60s. My BFG 6800GT and Ultra both idled in the mid 50s but reached 80s in load. But by the time I exited the game and checked the temp, it would show low 60s temp. It's that fast at dropping the temp. The only reason I know it really hits that high is because I run dual monitor and can leave open the temp monitoring program on the second screen as I run 3dmarks and games on the primary monitor.

Yah - I've seen the same thing. My BFG 6800GT OC idles at around 49C but goes up to about 60C when gaming/benching, then drops right back to 49-50 immediately after. I've got a big case, but only 3 fans (2 120's and 1 80mm), so the card must also be pretty good at dissipating its heat.
