The only reason I'm against RivaTuner is because I tried it before and it didn't work right. Also, I'm scared of accidentally changing something I shouldn't have and blowing something up. :sun:

I'll give it another go with those links yall provided. I'd just rather have the problem be fixed "officially" by NVIDIA/BFG then to rely on a 3rd party tool. The less stuff I have to load and mess around with, the better I say.

You don't need to have it locked at 50%, either. I'm not sure why you're so hard against using RivaTuner, Ryan. It's great software..a helluva lot better than the Nvidia control panel.

print out the guide from guru.com referenced from angryhampster. Follow it to the tee otherwise it will not work.

Is an 8800GT running ~80C under load going to be too hot and cause any problems? I know for the first few weeks when I built my rig and played some games pretty heavily, I didn't mess with the fan speed at all, and I encountered no problems. I'm thinking a more long-term damage to the parts kind of deal. Is this really a flaw with the 8800GT or is that a "safe" operating temp for the GPU?

Like I said before, high temperatures are normal for a 8800 GT. I don't think you will encounter problems with it, and if you do then the warranty should cover any potential damage. The problem I guess is the short life of the card, but again this shouldn't be an issue because nobody uses a videocard more then one year. Nvidia guarantees that this cooler is enough for the card to last at least 3 years. So if you don't like tweaking the fan speed then leave it like that and enjoy this great card as it is.
