Still high, period.
I paid a GTX260 for almost half of that price.
It needs to go down in the low or at least mid-3hundred.

Competition or not, the GTX 280 is worth more than low $320's. Posted for informational purposes only. Thanks for your input though..

At your local Fry's, this BFG GTX 280 OC should ring up at $419.99

And that's before the $30 Mail In Rebate

wait, your wording doesn't sound correct

so you're saying, that at a B&M Fry's location, the card is going to ring up at the register @ $419.99 before taxes, and then minus the $30 after that?

because the deal online would 'ring up' at $449.99 before taxes or shipping (which can be free) and then a $30 rebate...

Yes, at Fry's it will ring up at $419.99 before rebate. It may be an error (for now). Both Atlanta Fry's confirm $419.99 over the phone, someone in CA bought one yesterday.

Killer deal... The stock fans on these new generation of cards though is to loud for my tastes... :-/ Not sure it is worth the extra dough for a better fan, or shell out some big money for a waterblock...

Haven't put a load on it yet, but it's whisper quiet and running cool at idle. Was able to turn my 120mm exaust fans down a notch too.. :)

I've heard the 4800 fans can get loud, but the GTX 280 should actually be quieter than your GTS fan pushing the same amount of air, as the GTX 200 fans are larger. My GTX 280 actually runs cooler at variable 40-65% duty cycle compared to my 8800 GTX which I ran at 85% fixed duty.
