bfg employee in the forums?

I cant remember if it was bfg10k or not, but didn't we have someone who worked with the BFG rma/warranty department. I remember some pics of hacked up/fried pcb/testing prototypes rma scammers.

The reason i'm asking, is my 8800gts g92 died and i sent it in for rma. Just wondering if i could get an eta or status? the tracking page says they received it wed.

It's not me - my handle comes from a gun in the Quake series.

I have no affiliation to any IHV. 🙂

ah. i thought he just did psu design. i was under the impression there were 2 bfg employees here.

Status is that there is no status.

Okay, seriously though, I don't know. I don't work at support (60 miles from the HQ where I work) so I don't know if they're almost done checking out the card you returned and getting ready to ship you a new one, or if they have a high volume and are backed up a bit.

Give it a bit more time. If you still don't have an update in a few more days (don't count weekends, phone support is open but they don't process any of the actual products) then I'd suggest to give them a call at the toll free number. I'm assuming you're in the USA.

ah well. guess i'll try to be patient. been jonz'in for some tf2.

i was hoping to get an idea of the turnaround time for the whole process and what happens if they dont have my model. one good thing about the g92 rebadges is that there are only a dozen variants left.

any good rma scam cards lately?

Turnaround really depends on what cards are available and how busy the RMA department is. Sometimes they do as quick as next day turnaround if they aren't too busy and have replacements readily available. Sometimes it can be a week or two if there is a high volume of RMAs or if we're waiting for a pending shipment. It really depends.

For what you would get, an exact replacement if available. If not, next step up would be probably a 9800 GTX+ or GTS 250. I don't know what they have on hand.

I actually discovered an RMA scam card a few weeks ago. It had been sitting around a while so I don't know when it came in, but it was an EVGA 8800 GTS 320MB with the sticker (trimmed to fit) from a BFG GTX 260. Don't remember if I got pics and don't know where it is now.

cool. [gets out 20sided die to see how luck is trending... 😉 yhatzee]

the rma process start was surprisingly painless. that pre-registering stuff really works well.

I still lol every time i see that quadro nibble-punch trimmed to fit the cooler cover. Fermi should bring in a whole new round of shell games.

gorobei, did you try to scam BFG? Are you playing the shell game? 🙂

Since we are talking about BFG, I want to state that back in the day (2003-2004) I innocently got ripped off of ebay into buying a used FX 5900. When I received it, it was defective (no physical damage). BFG was my lifeline back then, I felt that I had broken wings but their customer support actually helped me out through some effective communication and got me an RMA without having an actual receipt. At the end of it all I did get a refurbished fx 5900 which worked better but was slightly defected later on, BFG did offer to replace the card later on as well.

My point here is that BFG went out of their way back then to ship me a replacement even though I had no receipt and also bought a defective product off some stranger (I told them that I was gifted the card from a friend). BFG is still the best overall warranty provider as they usually will step out of their way to please the customer. Although the FX5900s sucked more than any other card back then, and a hand full of them were defective back then, this company still supported every BFG owner, which I think is great.

Don't know how they are now, but I think they should be cool.

chances are they have their own forum. this is where i went to get my OCZ replacement PSU shipped back. it was over a week so i made a post on their forum and i had a tracking number within an hour.

BFG does not. There used to be a site called bfggaming.com with forums. It was supposed to be a community site, but due to lack of promotions or something (turned out people didn't want a "community" as much as they wanted the chance to "win something for free") interest waned. The forums basically turned into a cesspool of complaints, MOST of which could have been addressed if the person just picked up the phone and called.

Omg, OMG!!! Great idea. Setup a toll free number for all users of AnandTech to call in and complain. I say we get Red Dawn to answer the phone and weekends could be any number of guests. 🙂

BFG is good about their RMAs. I have had some difficulty with other companies. I will say I hate their new scan in your receipt and mail it within 30 days or you don't really have a lifetime warranty though.

However in the past my friend RMAd a 6800 vanilla agp and received a 7900 gs agp back. The card was already over 3 years old but the 7900 gs gave that machine a few months more life.

I've had the same BFG card checkerboard on me twice now. Not sure why, but this time they won't let me RMA it, it's a 7950...shrug. I prefer EVGA, they've been pretty damn solid since the mid 2000's.

Zap, maybe you can answer me this question. I know RMA isn't your thing, but it's not exactly RMA-specific.

I bought me 2 GTX285 OCs in early November. Long story short, 2 weeks ago my CPU, mobo and one GPU fried. I bought my GPUs online. However, checking the parts, the repair shop identified the dead one as being a GTX 285 OCX and not OC. There other was an actual OC.

I clearly bought twice the same model, and received twice the same boxes and manuals, but the OCX must have been mispackaged. Now I need to RMA it and explain I actually bought an OC and am sending an OCX for RMA. Wouldn't that seem suspicious at best, even if I only asked for an actual OC back? Since it's still a defective BFG part anyway, would they still replace it?

If you registered the card, they would go by the serial number on it. You shouldn't have any problems.

you didn't notice that one of them came with a different stock speed than the other?

Thanks, Zap.

To tell you the truth I never bothered to look it up. Thinking I bought twice the same model, I had no reason to think they might be different. I didn't expect to overclock it, either.
