BFG Asylum Ti4200 Problem with Games

Got the BFG Asylum from BB.

I am having problem completing the 3Dmark2001. The specific game that the card failed is the car test (game1) and Lobby (game3) The card can complete the rest of the benchmark including the nature test.

I also have problem with some games including MaxPayne (hang when the game start - where you can control the character), JK2 (hang after about 30 minutes of playing), Need for Speed: Porche (lock up in 1 min).

I was suspecting there could be a memory problem with the Geforce card because game such as RTCW, Crimson Sky, most of the 3Dmark2001 benches(all theoretical test, Dragon, and Nature) and some old games do not exhibit this problem

I had a Geforce3Ti200 in my system before and never such problems.

System overview:
1.4Ghz Athlon
Soyo K7VTA-PRO (verified with the manufacture to work correctly with Geforce4 products, correct AGP voltage)
512 CAS2 PC133 SDRAM
CPU temp: 42C
Case temp: 23C
PS: Enermax 350W
AGP aperature: 128MB
AGP driving force: Auto
AGP transport: 4X with sideband addressing

Any ideas? (bad card?)

Rumor is the card is having memory problems. Call up BFG, they know about this and will replace that card. I dont think Best Buy will be nice about this.

tried 30.82 and 40.72 still has lockups. (40.72 does pixle shader a lot faster now..my nature test runs great)

OS: win2k
I have the same amount of stuff running in the background as I have had them when I was runnign Geforce3

It's clean as far as I know (It won't make a difference)

Are all the cards having memory problems? I have the same card and my 3DMark completed successfully ..

what does that mean? isn't BB obligated to take the card back if its faulty?

I have the card, I have had problems with 3dmark when i had my cpu overclocked to a certain ammount, but when i turned it down it completed without crashing, I was experencing many other problems but when i lowered my overclock on my CPU they went away. Other than all this the card works great, I think i need a new PSU, for some of the problems i had. Anyways, if ur overclocking ur CPU that could be the culprit, i had problems in particular with the last to tests of 3dmark in which windows would crash completly with unknown erros of all sorts. But anyways.... If anyone else has news on this problem please let me know thanks!

I feel that my BFG card is overheating

I can run the 3dmark2001: car demo to a longer periods of time when the card was cold (still crashes just later). Same goes for the loby demo.

I have noticed on games that's less demanding such as RTCW, I can play for a good amount of time before the lockup. But when I play something like MaxPayne, or UT2k3 I get either booted to the desktop or blue-screen almost instantly.

I have noticed when placeing a piece of paper in between the card and the HSF that there are areas on the chip which was not covered by HSF. I don't know what to expect from the Geforce4 chip (can they even run without a proper HSF to GPU contact?)

I have since moved from my initial speculation of memroy problem to improper HSF mounting. This card is driving my nuts.

I am waiting for a replacement card from BFG, if that doesn't work I am just gonna return the stupid card and go back to my Geforce3.

BTW I do have my CPU overclocked. I will not underclock it because I have been running this configuration for a year now with 0 stability problem. I do some video encoding and I will not wait 5 more min for the damn divx to complete 🙂

Its not the overclock on the CPU that makes it unstable its the FSB overclock that makes the AGP/PCI bus at a higher rate, causing things to be unstable. If you just upped your multiplier or somthin it wouldn't make a difference.
